Happy International Persons with Disabilities Day, also known as World Disability Day! To celebrate, we asked one of our clients, Michael, to tell us a little bit about how Soul Dogs has helped him to live a successful life with his disability. Q: What do you do at Soul Dogs? A: I train puppies and dogs ... I get to socialize and make friends. Q: What do you like most about Soul Dogs? A: I love to be around the animals here. I love the people and staff. Q: Who is your favorite soul dog, and why? A: Rilee is my favorite. She's stubborn but she makes my life much easier. Q: Today is International Persons with Disabilities Day. How has Soul Dogs helped you with your disability? A: I stress less when I get to come here. I am getting used to being around more people ... I wouldn't have a job or a good home without you guys. Q: What are some of the skills you learned at Soul Dogs that you use in the community? A: How to work with dogs. I work at [a dog daycare] and I have to know what the dogs need. I know how to talk to people when I need something. Q: Is there anything else you want to tell people about Soul Dogs? A: I love it here! Soul Dogs has made all the parts of my life better. Soul Dogs, Inc.'s Day Program has helped Michael learn how to care for dogs, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, and bearded dragons. He has obtained a job successfully through our Supported Employment department, where he applies skills learned in our Train-the-Trainer program. He has made great strides in advocating for himself and building new relationships while participating in several of our services.
