Putting some finishing touches on a lawn today
This property had a lot of vines and growth on the walls of the house. I was able to uncover the walls and get the property ready for some new landscaping. Ground covers need to be managed and kept off of buildings, especially ones with siding.
Variety is my favorite part of outdoor services. The latest task was to cut open a 9 strand high tensile cattle fence and install a gate post system for a 16ft gate to allow access for hay equipment to this pasture. The holes for the posts were hand dug 3 ft deep to accommodate an 8 inch diameter gate post and the braces are 6 inch diameter posts. The project turned out nice and tight and will allow this space to serve dual purposes now between hay and cattle production.
Today I was able to clean up this overgrown space and to my surprise, in the process, I unearthed a brick patio extension that was completely buried. String trimmers do exceptionally well at removing a couple inches of dirt off of bricks instead of using a shovel. It was pretty neat to see a root structure that grew in the brick joints and formed 90 degree bends in the roots. Pictures of that are toward the end of this group of pictures. I was able to eradicate the ground cover and get everything ready to grow back into grassy lawn space.
Today ended up being a good day to spread some color on these mulch beds. The rain held off and the temperature was a lot more comfortable.
This job was an opportunity to use creativity to freshen up the pool area by removing a plastic border and replacing it with a stone border. River rock was added in areas to bring balance to the entrance and a stone border was added to a window well to keep mulch in place. In addition, the front and side mulch beds were freshened up with natural mulch, the edges were defined and the shrubs were trimmed. Lastly, new tree rings were created by stripping out the sod from between the root structures and adding mulch. Although the weather was hot, it was enjoyable to see these tasks completed.
The roots from this little tree cracked the masonry edge around the ring and were threatening the sidewalk so I took the tree out and popped the stump to eliminate further damage.
Today I was able to remove this pine tree out of the way so a dog fence could be installed despite the soft ground conditions from recent rainfall. I made a “road” out of old boards and wheelbarrowed the trunk out and drug the branches while walking along the boards to not destroy the lawn. The customer was happy with the condition of the lawn and a tight time frame was met to accommodate the fence company’s schedule.
This week the wet weather we’ve been having eased up and ground conditions finally allowed me to clear out this brush up to the property line. I was able to rip out some invasive cherry trees to make this a safe area for horses as the leaves from cherry trees are toxic to horses. Although these hills were steep, the root grapple performed beautifully and I was able to add 1/3 of an acre of clear space to this pasture.
This lawn install is complete. Now we just need rain and warmth to get this grass seed growing!
Prepping the soil for seed
Today was soil conditioning day for a new lawn installation. This hill was fun to smooth out!
Took this pin oak down for the client in preparation for a builder to add an addition to this house.
Removed a very large mulch bed and made it much smaller and more manageable for the property owner.
Cleaned up this junk pile and tore a bunch of chain link fence down. Regraded it to a manageable area to give the space a fresh start for new owners.
Removed this play set and mulch area and turned it back to usable lawn space.
Cleared some moderately heavy brush away from this area and regraded some drainage swails to allow runoff water to properly flow. Once the grass seed grows, this area should be able to be easily maintained going forward. A before picture is at the end of these pictures.
It’s satisfying to have a part in property cleanup and restoration

If the backdrop for your special occasion is a rustic theme, consider including wood “cookies” for your table’s centerpiece based and/or coasters. We can make virtually any size slice out of numerous species of wood to create that cozy atmosphere for your guests to enjoy! These “cookies” are freshly made and still need to ”bake” and be sanded but the natural wood grain and bark will create an accent to set the stage for the rest of the tables.
Another yard restored back to its pre storm condition.
When storms deal your property a heavy blow, make sure to consider all options to get the mess cleaned up in the most fiscally responsible manner possible. At Timber Valley, the focus is to clean up the mess while allowing the property owner to retain as much value out of the damaged trees as possible. Ask about custom, on-site firewood processing and see if it is a right fit for your needs. This allows you the satisfaction of seeing your damaged hardwood trees be salvaged and allows you to recoup some of the cleanup expenses in the form of responsibly harvested firewood cut to your specifications for the following year! **Typically excludes pine and other softwood species**
It’s been a busy week cleaning up from the August 7th storm. Here are a few before and after pictures of the damage and cleanup from the storm.
With all the storm damage this week, some Bradford Pear trees in the area took a beating. While not a wood traditionally thought of as being useful for firewood, it actually is a high quality firewood. If you have to clean up any Bradford Pears on your property, don’t just throw the usable firewood away. Here is some information showing the usefulness of Bradford Pear firewood for heat as well as smoking meat.
A decent load of 100% oak headed out. Fun fact: a stacked 4’x4’x8’ cord of firewood is 128 cubic feet but a truck bed needs to have 180 cubic feet of space to accommodate a thrown on cord.
After the storm snapped some of the top out of this tree and severely compromised the trunk, it was time to put this tree on the ground. Maples are notorious for rotting out the center of trunk stems and this one was no exception. Now this tree will no longer pose a risk to this property owner.
