QUESTION FOR DIVORCED/SEPARATED PARENTS:
I’m doing a podcast this afternoon on how to deal with the kids spending time at two houses and I am really so torn on my feelings about this.

I would LOVE to hear from anyone faced with this question or dealing with this situation.

Some points to consider -

- The difference in rules at each house (who comes and goes, where the people in one house may have been/ who they had contact with etc).

- If you and your ex disagree on the severity of the pandemic and how you choose or have chosen to respond.

- Example: In my situation, I’m much more cautious ... which makes me the one who is “overreacting” - How do you make a smart decision neither based on fear or feeling coerced? (Happy to hear both sides of this argument.)

- If you were seeing your parents or other baby boomers should you stop doing so when the kids come back unless you are aware of where the other people who they were in contact with have been?

- Any advice from exes who are in agreement??? Did you discuss this? What was the outcome?

These are questions I never thought I’d have to answer or even consider… but here we are.

Anyone who knows me knows that I only come out of my cave when I’m passionate about something.
I am asking this question and doing the podcast because I am passionate about humanity and feel helpless.
As I see it all I have to offer is my commitment to stay home and to attempt to “flatten the curve” and my voice/willingness to have these conversations (and maybe the ability to add a touch of levity).

Please take a moment to answer if you have thoughts on the subject or dm me if you’d like to keep your thoughts private. This is uncharted territory and I want to approach this discussion thoughtfully. I’m not married to any one idea or position (or my ex).

Ohhh I showed them! That’s right, I crushed this 1st Halloween in my new ‘hood - where not a single neighbor has introduced themselves since I moved in.

They’re gonna be like “Wow, this girl has mad pumpkin carving skills and she gave out full-size candy bars!?! She’s awesome! Why oh WHY didn’t we simply stop by and say hello????!!!”

Then next week, when the doorbell rings incessantly with people offering bunt cakes (is that still a thing?) or invite me over for tea and crumpets...

I’ll be all “My apologies but you’re simply too late, I’ve already made friends with another neighborhood!”

Hi all.
I know it’s been awhile since I’ve checked in with the internets. The truth is, I’ve always prided myself in being honest... finding the humor and the ironies in the everyday life of a mom, Gen Xer, wife (and now I guess I can add divorcee).

I haven’t written because frankly, I haven’t had anything to say. Last week, as you all know, 17 children and teachers were slaughtered in Parkland, a city 20 minutes from my home... and I now have something to say. It’s time to use my voice!

I won’t make this political because I feel it’s a nonpartisan (not partisan or even bipartisan) issue. I will say, this has opened my eyes. The bubble I retreated to in the past... has popped, burst, exploded.

That said, yesterday I got on a bus to Tallahassee with 50 Parkland and Broward County moms, student survivors, classmates of Cruz, and family of the victims, to advocate for the students of Parkland and continue what they started.

Since I haven’t been on in fb lately, you probably won’t even see this (algorithms and such), but if you do... I’m here and I will be covering highly debated legislation to make our schools safe.

I will be learning about politics and policy and sharing it so that people can follow, but also, so that people like myself, who weren’t politically minded, can see how things work and feel comfortable jumping in and being heard!

A Toast to Life With Adolescents:

My sweet, loving, snuggly little girl, turned adolescent: "Mom, are you wearing blue mascara?"

Me, kinda digging my retro electric blue lashes: "Yep."

Adolescent with scarily deadpan delivery: "On purpose?"

Me: "No, I fell into a 2 millimeter deep puddle of it... eyes closed... face first."

Adolescent, lazily backpedaling: "Oh, I wasn't saying it's bad. I mean, it's not for me... or most people, but it's fine on you."

Me, who will soon regret my attempt to explain: "It's actually "in" right now, I just bought some for a friend."

Adolescent who once found me to be the coolest thing EVER: "Are you giving her a gift receipt?"
