⚡️ANNOUNCING…The Stairwell Space⚡️
is a new contemporary art gallery in Bridgeport, Connecticut. TSS it is situated in the historic American Fabrics Arts Building, inhabiting the building’s original entrance, a grand marble foyer that features a two-story spiral staircase. An alternative space, it aims to contextualize and champion the work of local, regional, and national artists, cultivating meaningful conversations about art and culture.

The Stairwell Space will kick off with its inaugural exhibition, “I Do Not Know What It Is I Am Like,” during the 2024 Bridgeport Art Trail, with a reception on Thursday, November 7th from 6-8pm and gallery hours from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10. The exhibition will be open for public educational programs or by appointment through Sunday, December 15, 2024. A closing reception with artist talk is scheduled for December 15 from 2-4pm.

Curated by Terri C Smith in collaboration with Linda Colletta, the group exhibition draws its inspiration from pioneering video artist Bill Viola’s work of the same name. In it, Viola films an owl and slowly zooms in on its pupil until the artist is reflected back. To varying degrees, the artists in “I Do Not Know What It Is I Am Like” also explore intersections of process, introspection, and reflection.

Featuring an intergenerational roster working in a variety of media, artists include Bobby Abate, Damali Abrams, Linda Colletta, T.J. Dedeaux-Norris, Alex Dolores Salerno, Ada Friedman, Crystal Heiden, Luis Lopez, Lauren Luloff, Alyse Rosner, Roxy Savage, Kristen Schiele, and Emily Weiskopf.

‼️Please consider a $300 donation to own this piece, here’s why…

I am proud to be part of to the highly anticipated “10 squared - Using Art as a Vehicle for Change” exhibition and fundraiser, taking place on October 5th at ART06870 Gallery. This event brings together over 100 national, regional, and local artists in a remarkable display of creativity and community engagement. In a unique full-circle event, professional artists give back to the community by enabling workshops that will reach thousands of children in the area.

This event is in collaboration with Greenwich Alliance for Education and proudly supported by The Developing Artist Program, made possible with generous grants from the Greenwich Alliance, Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, the Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA) and supplemental support for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)

Each artist has contributed a 12 x 12” panel of original artwork, available for auction at a set price of $300. The proceeds will support art workshops designed to enrich the lives of children. These workshops, conducted at the Boys & Girls Club and at additional locations in local schools, museums, galleries, and studio spaces, will provide creative outlets for thousands of children.

Your collaboration will directly support workshops for students and aspiring young artists. As adults, we can all recall specific moments when people inspired, mentored, or provided opportunities for us. These workshops will do just that—enriching and expanding the lives of so many kids in the area.

This all-woman show explores the dimensional, emotional, and transcendental nature of painting and sculpture through the lens of each artist’s experience and relationship to memory, nature, catharsis, nostalgia, and humor.
