1970s and 1980s WCA
Let's talk about an era many in our community experienced first-hand! The 70s and 80s brought a big pivot in our culture and livelihood. More women were entering the workforce, in fact, nationally 50% of women with children 3 and under were employed. WCA implemented an early childhood preschool program in Westchester and also established the first shelter for homeless youth who did not have stable home lives.
We are proud of the advocacy that has gone on for decades and made an impact in our local community and state. #childrensadvocate #datamatters #homelessyouth #1970s #1980s
We are excited to celebrate our 110th anniversary on June 5th!
Come join us on June 5th to celebrate our 110th celebration! What was happening in the 60s? In 1965, about 24% of all children in the United states are under the Age of 5. What WCA did to help? In response, WCA issued reports titled: Mental Hygiene in Kindergarten as well as an Analysis of the Foster Care Case Load. For 110 years WCA has kept kids healthy, safe, and prepared for life's challenges. There's never a better day to make a difference in the lives of children than today, join us to celebrate and continue to make a difference on June 5th: https://wca4kids.org/events/2024-celebration/ #westchestercounty #westchesterchildren #childrenshealth
Isn't it ironic how some of the most tragic times bring forth some of the greatest accomplishments and examples of human strength? While the Great Depression was in full force, the country banded together to unify their resources. During this time, only 20% of 18-20 year olds were in school because of their families dire circumstances. In response, the WCA focused on these youth to create vocational training and placement services that could work within their means. WCA was focused on youth engagement then and still is now. It's not too late to grab your gala tickets to join our celebration, we would love to see you there helping us pave the way into history yet again! https://wca4kids.org/events/2024-celebration/ Also who knew that Looney Tunes was created in the Great Depression era (turn on your sound)? #looneytunes #childrensadvocate #GreatDepression
Let's compare! In the 1910s when World War I and Child Labor Laws were originating. Local citizens launched WCA in Westchester County and underwrote the salaries of the county's first six child welfare workers. WCA has kept kids healthy, safe, and prepared for lifes challenges for decades. Join us in celebrating our 110th anniversary.
