Holidays without your loved one(s) is an emotionally challenging time, whether it is your first Christmas without them or it has been several years. You may feel a lack of holiday cheer or an emptiness that impact your thoughts, feelings, and actions. YOU ARE NOT ALONE in this grief journey, and you have every right to feel a lack of holiday cheer, even when those around you seem to be celebrating this holiday season.

It is important to be patient with yourself and to practice self-care during this holiday season. Print this Coping with Holiday Grief tool to talk about with your family and take turns writing new ideas for self-care!

Going through this time of year is not easy, so know that Hospice of Wichita Falls is here to help you in any way we can! Please call 940-691-0982 if you or a loved one would like assistance walking your grief journey.

Today is Child Grief Awareness Day. Our Children's Program here at Hospice of Wichita Falls, works all year around with grieving children and their families who have lost a loved one. This day is so special, because we can shed light on the sometimes dark topic of grief, and share our support to the many children around us who often suffer silently or alone.

To the children and teens who feel empty, alone, hopeless, scared, or all of the above....YOU ARE IMPORTANT. Your feelings are valid and we honor your strength and bravery to go through the heavy loss of someone you've deeply cared for. We hope our "Wall of Support" gives you strength when you need it the most and reminds you that you are not alone!

Hospice of Wichita Falls provides bereavement services for both children and adults who are grieving all year around for FREE. You do NOT have to had lost a loved one on our services and the loss does NOT have to be recent. To learn more about our FREE grief counseling services, visit us at www.howf.org/grief-support

To celebrate September 5th, the International Day of Charity, consider supporting our new Patient Animal Wellbeing (PAW) Program here at Hospice of Wichita Falls! Pet loss is real loss too. Pets are our family, and when they cross the rainbow bridge, a piece of our heart goes with them.

HOWF recognizes a need for pet loss grief support, and we are now the only local agency who can support individuals grieving the loss of their pets through pet-focused bereavement programs which include PESI certified Pet Loss Grief Specialists. We held our first Rainbow Bridge Memorial Service in June with a wonderful response from the community. Those who attended memorialized their pets and celebrated their unconditional love. Watch our website for future events, as well as other programs provided through our Patient Animal Wellbeing (PAW) Program. All Texoma Gives donations will go to support our new PAW Program.

Texoma Gives begins on September 8th and we are so excited to be participating again! This year, we highlight our Patient Animal Wellbeing, or PAW program. It has been a dream of ours to fund this program, so that we may provide grief and care support to anyone who has suffered the loss of a beloved pet, and give in-house services to our hospice patients who struggle with taking care of their pets while receiving care for themselves.

Have you ever suffered the loss of a beloved pet? More often than not, pet loss can be a disregarded type of grief that is not taken seriously. When a child's first experience with grief is often surrounded by the death of a pet, it's essential to validate the grief that follows, as this first experience teaches them the importance of grief-sharing and coping with difficult grief feelings. When you give to our PAW Program, one benefit we will offer is holding our Rainbow Bridge Memorial Services, which will be available for community members of ANY age! Early giving begins TODAY!
