They may even know a person is possibly suicidal but not intervene to help because they know the person suffering should just get over it and they may not think twice about if the person follows through with it.
Mental illness is hard on the person suffering and can be hard on the people around them. What you should not do is walk away from them.

It was sad to see the governor of Kansas not immediately disavow the actions of a terrorist who sent letters with white powder to the homes and businesses of Kansas Republican legislators. The actions of this individual or individuals could have been harmful not only to the legislators but also to their families and employees.
The governor still has not released an official statement.
At least the Democrat leader of the Senate did. Thank you, Senator Sykes.
Thank you, Speaker Hawkins, for your leadership.
LAWSUIT COULD DENY WOMEN IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON ABORTIONS, LEGISLATOR SAYS
Commentary
BY BRENDA LANDWEHR
SPECIAL TO THE EAGLE
JULY 08, 2023 5:00 AM
For many years, Kansas women who had abortions courageously testified before the state Legislature about the lack of information they had been given prior to choosing abortion. Their stories were filled with pain, anger, resentment and regret, but had a purpose: to help ensure other women would not be misled, uninformed, rushed, or coerced into an abortion decision. In response to their powerful testimony, the Kansas Legislature passed the Woman’s Right to Know Act in 1997 with bipartisan, unanimous support. In fact, the bill was signed into law by a governor who supported “abortion rights.” Lawmakers recognized that the best interests of women and abortionists are not the same and are often in conflict.
These safeguards and penalties were enacted so that profit-driven businesses cannot prey on vulnerable pregnant women. The abortion industry fought against this compassionate legislation and has seemingly taken steps to conceal or make it difficult for women to access this information. “Choice” is meaningless when information is withheld. What is it that the abortion industry considers “irrelevant” to a pregnant woman’s decision making and doesn’t want her to know?
▪ The right to know the name of the abortionist, if he or she has hospital admitting privileges and malpractice insurance.
▪ The right to know the father of the child is liable to assist in the support of the child.
▪ The right to know she has a right to change her mind about completing her chemical abortion and where she can get timely medical help if she wants to try to save her baby (the provisions supported by Dr. Jonathan Scrafford, Wichita OB/GYN, and 2019 Kansas Family Physician of the Year Dr. John Eplee).
▪ The right to be given information about abortion and her options Last year, a spokesperson for a group opposed to the Value Them Both constitutional amendment assured Kansans that “(Even) if we vote no, those regulations stay in place.” Another opponent to the amendment dismissed the idea that the abortion industry would go after other abortion regulations. “The fact that they have not done so for three years and have simply complied with them makes me wonder why they would at this point.”
Twenty-six years after it was first enacted, the abortion industry has now filed suit against the Woman’s Right to Know informed consent law and all of its provisions. This is not about being pro-life or pro-choice. Reasonable people do disagree on abortion. All Kansans should be outraged by the tactics of the abortion industry, including the campaign against last year’s amendment, and now the efforts to dismiss a woman’s right to know all medical information when in this vulnerable position. Kansans deserve better and I believe the courts should dismiss this lawsuit and its unprecedented attack on a woman’s right to make an informed decision.

It was a long and stressful evening for David and I. We received a letter in the mail that contained a not-so-nice letter as well as some powder.
I contacted the KBI as instructed around 7 pm. At that time they were traveling around Wichita to pick up several of these letters mailed to Republican legislators.
The letters were delivered around. Their team finally made it to our house at 1130pm. They still had several more homes to get to.
This was very upsetting for our family. Elected officials and their families should not have to worry about their safety. This could have been very serious for our children and spouses. The uncivil discourse has to stop.
This is also coming at a great expense to the taxpayers of Kansas as they go to each of our homes to test the powder.
Thank you to all of the men and women of the KBI and the local authorities who assisted them. They had some very long hours yesterday and into the morning hours.
Being the best leader you can be isn’t easy, it takes commitment every day, celebrate your wins, recognize the mistakes and have a commitment to be better.
