The legend himself. So dope to see him living his best life.
We would love to get him here. We would super appreciate the support with a vote to help us make it happen.
Today is 12/12 and a New Moon. Ones and twos have been heavy in our world for some time now and New Moon energy is for intention setting or the planting of seeds in darkness so I wanted to take a moment to do a little bit of reflection but mainly I would like to set some intentions for the year ahead.
We have been growing as organically as possible so as to not overwhelm ourselves any more than one has to in order to do what we do. We have a huge vision we are trying to accomplish and it has taken a lot from each of us to get as far as we have. Which is quiet a ways from our beginning as a burner sound camp. What we once did for sheer love and gift culture has become a professional experience from start to finish and we are not even in the same arena any longer. We got here on love but its only sustainable with money. Mending those two truths has been a journey to say the least.
To arrive where we are at has taken a considerable amount of personal and business growth. So many breakdowns only to rebuild ourselves stronger. We have taken risk in an industry that was hit the hardest during a once in a lifetime pandemic and survived that. We have endured the odds of going into business with friends when statistically speaking that is not what people do and we kick ass together. We have been led by heart and not pressure, power, or ego. We have conquered learning curves every step of the way because we had no idea what we were doing once we stepped out of hosting camp and into hosting shows. We just keep showing up and doing the work and believing in each other and our purpose.
To say the music industry is cut throat is not doing it any justice. If one wants to allow how others attempt to control things to stifle their success, it would be easy to lose hope playing this game but instead we are rising up. We are accepting the challenge to be a different voice and example and we won’t be compromised. We will continue to trust the process and proceed with integrity knowing it will be rewarded. There are so many people that attempt to hijack the potential for music to be medicine because they see dollar signs and clout but we won’t let that happen. We got into this to provide the opportunity for healing and connecting and to do that we have to cultivate our vibes with the purest of intentions. Tribal Roots is our living prayer and the change we want to see in action. We leave no room for anything that will diminish this to permeate our existence because to do so would change our vibration and we give no one that power over us. This is no easy task, as we have had to navigate how to work with people all the way down the line from agents to promoters and other crews.
We knew when we wanted to begin stepping up our game and bringing people to this market it was going to be some work to gain trust and respectability since it has been mostly a dry market for the scene we are bringing in. Being a part of sound system culture meant that we had to have the right tools first and know how to use them. Then we had to gain recognition to be seen so that artists wanted to play on them. We have been blessed with a sound system that seems divinely gifted in all honesty because we had no idea what we were buying. We took a chance and it paid out beyond our wildest dreams.
It has been an insane push to get ourselves out there, catch peoples attention, and create a desire to come to us. It has all been a very well thought out and strategic plan combined with a lot of taking big risks and hoping for the best and winging it truthfully. This year has been the first time we feel with certainty that all the hard work and risks are starting to pay off. The momentum is finally there and we are ready to level up.
We have gained the respect needed to make working with agents a much easier process for the most part. I will say though that there seems to be some major imbalance on how the smaller markets and underground scene that built these artists up are treated and I don’t particularly care for it. An area of the industry that disturbs me. They will eventually destroy the small guy treating them like they have the same budget as the giants but this country is known for selling out to corporate so here we are. Greed rearing its ugly head. More on this is coming in the podcast.
Over the course of time our work ethic has spoken for itself. We have built some solid relationships with everyone we have worked with. We give everyone that hires us the same passion we give our own events and it has been amazing to start forging bonds that now we are co-creating magic for people all over with super talented curators. This is how we give power to the mission to create spaces people can heal, connect, and find their creative voice so that we can put more art out into the world. It is necessary and we are blessed to be a party to that.
As it happens in life, there will always be the push back, the resistance and we are no exception to that. We have found our light and we are shining it as brightly as possible. This will always disturb the darkness which comes in many forms. I would say that is what we are up against when one tries to heal and elevate so we knew a lot would come our way and it has.
We are not here with the intention to challenge others or life. Yet, to exist is to be burdened by that in some way or another. We have done the work to know our path, stay our course, and to not falter. It has gotten easier over time with each challenge that we overcome because we become stronger in our truth and in our stance.
We stay committed to achieving higher frequencies by not engaging in things that will lower them. We do not entertain the actions of others that seek to cause disconnection through fear, hate, or anger as that is the way of the system and institutions that hold us down as people on this planet and prevent progress. That is the fight that led us here. Dance and community is what freed us from that and we will not allow that to be tainted. We simply do not have time to engage with lower vibrations or we would have no energy to continue to elevate which is the goal.
Moving into 2024 it is time for Tribal Roots to level up. We are taking much larger risks and believing that the outcome will be what we need it to be to continue to progress and take art to levels beyond our current limitations and imaginations.
Our intentions are to cultivate love, inspire others, strengthen and build community, heal, and connect. We want to create more opportunities for art to thrive in our city and support those who take a risk to be artists and creatives as we have. We want to do more for the community through charity, city clean ups, and working with others who seek to make the community better as well. We go beyond our love for electronic music. We have many facets to our purpose and we are setting intentions with each passing year to dig deeper and deeper into each and every one of those and to continue attracting others who help us make this happen.
This has been a great year! We are excited for what 2024 holds and most importantly ready to share it with those who have found value in what we offer.
We have some very exciting announcements in store already and can’t wait to provide some unforgettable experiences.
Tribal Roots member Chance McKibbin, surprised the rest of the crew with this Caricature painting. He presented it on the night of our 1st comedy show, so the timing was perfect. Painted by the talented Alec Lang. It is now hanging by the front gate at our warehouse. Be sure to peep it when you come to a show.
Pretty Neat.
Pretty sic!
Our first comedy night at the warehouse was a success! The seats were full and the air was filled with laughter. We look forward to building this into the Tribal Roots experience moving forward. I can think of no better way to set intentions for a dance floor than lifting our spirits with humor.
Laughter has always been one of the best medicines for the soul and we enjoyed sharing this moment with each and every one of you that showed up and out. Comedy is an art form worth preserving and we are honored to be able to host space to lift it up.
So much gratitude for the amazing comedians that brought their A game. Very impressed by the local and regional talent. Huge shout out to everyone that played a role in making these amazing memories possible from the staff to the Dj’s and comedians to each and every person that came out to support.
Last night was special and we hope to create more magic where that came from. Stay tuned…

Those of us at Tribal Roots would like to thank each and every one of you that donated to our annual Fun In The Sun Fundraiser this past summer. You all made the warehouse upgrades possible and we would love to elaborate on what we were able to accomplish with the donations.
We have a few more big additions that are a part of the fundraiser money to come over the course of the next few months that will transform the space yet again but we have to hunt down exactly what we have in mind, so expect the space to continuously evolve as you come to each event.
As of now, you will notice that we were able to fund 3 new huge murals by local ICT artists Quintis Pinkston, Abraham Sebastian, and Michella Tripoli. Michella will be working on hers live at each show this season so everyone can witness the bad asserY unfold before their eyes. Quintis also has some finishing touches to add to his so keep your eyes peeled for that as well. We are blown away by these artists. They understood the assignment and created exactly the vibe we were hoping for. Make sure you take the time to get a good look at these murals in person to truly appreciate them.
As far as the rest of the upgrades, we have designed on a dime. We had to get a few more couches. Some donated and one funded with the donations.
The stage height was cut down. The receptionist desks we were using as the dj tables were moved to the box office area. The system is stacked differently which opened up the space tremendously. We then just rearranged some of our art from the shadow boxes to the front of the stage and built a piece to add to it out of existing wood that was in the warehouse from the start. Giving the stage more of an artistic look than the previous one.
We went through the place and worked on the areas that were causing issues with the sound. Huge thanks to Alex Toffler with Infrasound for loaning us 3 HUGE murals to showcase some art from one of the best festivals out there in the world of sound system culture. They really do help get rid of the eye sores that is the garage doors.
We added new lamps and lighting around and redesigned the chill area. We also made some tables out of doors that were left at the warehouse by previous tenants. We prefer to reduce, reuse, and recycle as much as possible so a lot of our stuff is truly one mans trash but our treasure.
We also purged and rearranged a lot of stuff so everything has a better flow to it overall.
The art fundraiser plays such an important role in our ability to build on the vision and keep things progressive. You don’t do art for the love of money, you do it for the love of creating. The money comes real hard in this world. There is hardly ever any additional funds to make art since we host only 6 months out of a year but have 12 months a year overhead and bills to keep up with. So again, we want you all to know how incredibly important you are and how big of a part your generosity and support plays into what we do so that we can offer this experience to the community.
We love you all so much and we hope you enjoy this season and all the changes made.
