That's a wrap on the Spring 2024 Con-74 Construction Estimating class I teach at Norco College! Last night marked our final session of the semester. I'm immensely proud of my students for their excellent attendance, active participation in assignments, and outstanding grades. The estimating class is an integral part of the Construction Management Certification Program. For those interested in the Construction Management Program at Norco, I encourage you to explore it further.

I extend my best wishes for success to all my students in their construction careers. It's also with great pride that I share the news of having inspired at least two students to embark on a career in Estimating!

I am pleased and excited to share that another Spring semester is starting tomorrow night at Norco College for the Construction Estimating class that I am teaching. This class is part of the Construction Management degree program. I have a few new ideas for the class this semester and I think the students should enjoy the class, the information and the exercises that I will be presenting.
I have 24 students this semester which is 8 more students than I had last year. I am grateful for the opportunity, and hopeful that I might encourage a few of the students to consider a career in estimating by the time the semester ends.

I am happy to report that the 2023 American Society of Professional Estimator's National Annual Summit was an enormous success! The Summit was held last week in beautiful Chandler, AZ. The Summit was very well organized and attended. Congrats to Natasha Crumblis, Joanne Warren, and Tina Cooke and the media crew and ASPE (American Society of Professional Estimators) Board of Directors for all their hard work in making the Summit so awesome and professional. There were 2 full days of presentations by great speakers on very entertaining and educational topics.
The topics covered Preconstruction, Estimating, Analyzing Risk, Economic Forecast and Use of Artificial Intelligence in Construction Estimating among other great topics. I learned quite a bit from my colleagues.
I want to thank the Summit Planning Committee for inviting and including me to be a speaker at the Summit. I shared a presentation entitled "Building Relationships During Preconstruction Phase for Design Build Healthcare and For Construction Management at Risk Higher Education Projects."
If anyone has questions about ASPE, the Summit, or my presentation, please message me. If anyone would like to have me speak or present to your group or office, please contact me.

I am happy to report that the Orange County Chapter 3 of the American Society of Professional Estimators had a very successful Educational Dinner Meeting on September 13 in Santa Ana, CA.

Due to the hard work and efforts of Ruth Perez and Danielle Leyva (both members of Chapter 3 and also employees of Swinerton Builders) there was a great crowd in attendance.

I had the pleasure of being the featured speaker/presenter sharing a presentation entitled "Estimating and Preconstruction for Higher Education." The meeting went great.

Quite a few of the folks attending are also employees of Swinerton.

For me, it was like a fun homecoming or family reunion getting to see and visit with so many of my ex-coworkers from Swinerton that came to hear me speak.

Thank you ASPE Chapter 3 for inviting me to speak.

Asok Patel, Director with Cu***ng, spoke to the group about Cu***ng and the new exciting areas that Cu***ng is participating in regarding Estimating and Consulting. His presentation was both entertaining and interesting. I would like to share some news regarding a couple of contracts that Larry Hendrick Consulting recently provided estimating and preconstruction services for.
One contract that I am pleased to report on is for a project that I contracted with Rore, Inc. to provide preconstruction and pre-bid estimating services for a project bid at the Gemological Institute of America Campus in Carlsbad, CA.
The project consisted of a remodel and expansion to the Research and Identification Laboratory building. As the name implies, the lab does research and identification on all types of precious stones and gems. On the day that we went for our pre-bid site walk, there were some very beautiful specimens, including diamonds, in the facility. I had hoped they would give away samples that day- but alas- they did not. However, it was a fun assignment all the same. I believe that Rore put together a great and competitive bid, but GIA decided to postpone the project for the time being. Hopefully, Rore will get another chance to re-bid the project in the future.
The second contract occurred last week, when Larry Hendrick Consulting contracted with Troy Thomas Vertical Services of Irvine, CA. to provide Conceptual Estimates for Residential Projects in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Architect for the projects is KTGY Architecture from Chicago, IL. The projects consisted of multiple detached single-family homes, multiple 3 story Condo Buildings and Community Centers at 2 separate sites. I am very grateful and appreciative to Troy for the opportunity and the chance to be involved in potential projects outside of California.

I am pleased to share that I recently was retained by Rore, Inc. To assist them in preparing bids for 2 interesting projects.
One was a bid for a design build Nuclear Forensics Modular Lab project in Livermore, Ca at Lawrence Livermore Labs. This bid involved very specialized modular lab construction and constant communication with the Modular Building Constructor in Indianapolis, IN. I think the bid prepared was extremely competitive and Rore feels positive regarding the soon to be announced bid results.
The second bid was for a full remodel of the San Diego Convention Center West Kitchen facility. This was as challenging as it was interesting and required strategic bidding and communication with select subcontractors to get qualified bids and pricing. Rore feels positive regarding the soon to be announced bid results on this project also.
I was grateful to be part of the bid teams for both pursuits and really enjoyed working with the great folks at Rore soliciting and compiling the bids.

I am happy and honored to report that I have been retained to teach a class on Construction Estimating, which is a part of the Construction Technology Program, at Norco College in Norco CA. Classes are set to start next week. I want to say thank you to Farshid Mirzaei and Dr. Jim Thomas for giving me the opportunity. My goal is to share my knowledge and experience gained over the past many years of construction estimating and bidding to the students. I think I can also continue to learn and grow in the process as well. I am hopeful that I also share my passion and love for the craft of estimating so that perhaps one or two or more students will want to pursue a career in estimating.

Larry Hendrick Consulting was retained a couple weeks ago to help provide pre-construction services and help bid a project for Swinerton Builders, Dallas Office. I was able to spend the entire week last week in beautiful Downtown Dallas working with the awesome Swinerton team there. Not only is the Swinerton Dallas team very competent and efficient, but they are also all great people, and I had a great time working with all of them. The project team had an interview with the client, and I believe they are awaiting final results on whether or not they won the bid. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! Thank you Swinerton Dallas (and Dave Callis) for inviting me to be part of the effort!
