What is a CST, you ask? A Certified Surgical Technologist is one of the angels in the Operating Room you’ll never recall seeing because by the time you’re wheeled into your OR, you are so full of drugs, you are moments away from drifting off to the deepest slumber of your life.

A lot of people are unfamiliar with the position but a CST is responsible for setting up everything required for your (or a loved ones) surgery and assisting the Surgeon by passing them every single instrument they need throughout the entire procedure (sometimes that’s 6+ hours). They work long hours and see some pretty gross things. And you know what? They do it with infinite grace. Bottom line, our Operating Rooms would fall into utter ruin without them.

I often speak of the “wearability” of jewelry. Aside from quality, it is the utmost important aspect for me when I look to invest in a new piece.

It is with these two factors at the forefront of my mind I create each and every piece of jewelry here at ROYGBIV Fine Jewelry.

So while this post appears somewhat different than my usual; I’m putting my money where my mouth is. Scrubs, some antique talismans and a strand of opals are all I need as I roll into the OR for a full day of unpredictability.

These are the factors I consider when I guarantee you a heirloom piece of jewelry that is beautiful yet functional.

The more years that wedge themselves between us and this unfathomable day, the less people make mention of it.

Time seems but a frivolous fool regarding my memory of 9/11 and I hope you will strive to keep the memory of that day alive, as well.

I had a reflective conversation this morning with my colleague and it dawned on me that everyone old enough to remember this day does so with little detail spared.

It usually resembles something like this: “I was ____________ when I saw ______________ and I felt/thought ___________. It was gut wrenching.”

The most monumental part of that day, for me, was the realization that we are all so intertwined. Every person I spoke to had a friend, family or acquaintance involved somehow/someway that day. We are interconnected more than we will ever know.

And it is with that sentiment I say; love your neighbor, tell your loved ones how much they mean to you and live each day with gusto.

If I’m being honest, wearability/functionality is everything to me. My day to day is active and I don’t usually wear much jewelry in the operating room.
What factors are most important to you when it comes to your jewelry collection?

Not all creative ideas come to me like a sweet dream in the night.
Having just finished a gorgeous strand of heishi Sleeping Beauty turquoise, I reached for a chunky pearl strand I knew I wanted to finish next.
Not having used all of the turquoise, the smaller stones remained on my board. Once I laid out the pearls, it all clicked into place. Add some extra gold? ✅Coral silk that is the closest semblance to OPI’s Cajun Shrimp I ever did see? ✅✅
It’s safe to say she might be one of my favorite happy happenstances. So much so, I kept the original for my collection. I have since recreated her for 3 fabulous clients.
