We are delighted to highlight Shaka Taco, the 2024 Coastal Entrepreneur Retail and Hospitality Award Winner, in our !

In 2017, Cody Leutgens and Steve Christian established their fresh and fun taco-inspired eatery out of a desire to provide a relaxing and delicious space for patrons to relax and enjoy. Their “fresh eats, fresh vibes” motto captures the restaurant's mission to provide an authentically enjoyable experience.

A client of the SBTDC at UNCW since late 2016, the pair of entrepreneurs have worked extensively with our business counselors to establish their local eatery as a must-visit stop in Surf City. In addition to their partnership with the SBTDC, Cody and Steve have engaged with the Cameron School of Business Executive MBA program at UNCW. This collaboration allowed graduate students to evaluate Shaka Taco’s business and offer valuable advice to the founders.

Shaka Taco has expanded to two additional locations: one on UNCW’s campus in the Hawk’s Nest food court and another in Hampstead, NC, at Ironclad Golf & Beer Garden. These expansions demonstrate Cody and Steve's commitment to growing their business.
