Trick-em Creek Woodworks
Custom wood products for sale. Basic carpentry to fine wood furniture. Traditional styling to modern rustic-industrial.
Some additional pictures of the cutting board and stand. The shop is laid out pretty well this go round. The shop situation is the biggest reason for low activity at Trick-em Creek recently. Eventually we’ll be back at it. Until next time folks… be creative, be happy, be you. We wish you the best possible holiday season!
Finally getting some dust in the air. Trying out a couple things with this one. Love the profile, it’s a copycat from a customer order a couple years ago. Also trying out a stand for the first time. The board sits down on the stand which just elevate board a few inches.
We don’t get down like we used to, but we did a thing this weekend and saved this hand-me-down table from itself. What started as an estate find at an in-laws quickly became the go to spot for family gatherings. In the last couple years it’s lived a hard life, and we finally decided to breath a little life back into it. Solid cherry top, apron, and legs. Oak leaf mechanism. (We may recreate the leaf, it was lost somewhere over the years before we found it)

Whew doggie, it’s been a while since Trick-em Creek Woodworks made any man glitter, but we got some dust in the air tonight!
This table has been in the works for literally years! It’s been an on again off again project that I hadn’t found a home fore. Finally, it’s about to come together as a house warming gift for a friend.
Got a photo back of the quilt piece in its new home. Not bad for a hillbilly! Those walnut dowels are really proud, as to be easy to remove so the piece can be cared for or replaced. I made airless tool that allows you to tap them out without damaging the frame’s finish.
Here’s a couple Christmas projects. Did a live edge cutting board for my mom. Ash from Bland County, VA, and the pre-finished red oak frame with walnut dowels for her stained glass quilt piece. Red Oak reclaimed from an old house in Giles County, VA. Love ya momma!
Life’s a little different on Trick-em Creek these days, mainly because we aren’t there.
The transition to Mooresville has landed a little differently than expected, but we are truly blessed and we couldn’t be in a happier place.
Projects will be a little slower to come, but we’ll keep ya posted. 😄
On that note:
Finally got the girls drawing table back into service. Originally it was attached to the wall; since we aren’t here long term, we opted to fit some basic legs to the back for functionality’s sake. They’ll get a few details on the router and some paint shortly.
Oak top, poplar front legs, pine back legs. (Top and front legs were salvaged from our old player piano.)
Yesterday was a little bitter sweet. Trick-em Creek Woodworks is officially relocating to Mooresville, NC in alignment with our corporate careers. We moved the main components of the shop yesterday, and we are seriously downsizing for now. We’ll be taking a small shop and compacting it into a 10x18 space. Lordy, bless my heart, it’ll fit. It’ll fit. I think it’ll fit. It might not fit…
Pictures to come…
Milling job is completed! Big thanks to Charlie Gregory for his time, equipment, and expertise. We ended up with materials to frame an addition on a barn, several slabs in both red oak and white pine (18”x26” wide) and even some quarter sawn red oak.
Trick-em Creek Woodworks took on this project before we knew we were going to have a deadline. We are very thankful for everyone’s help with this.
Getting quite the haul this round. Got a couple 8ft 6x6 maple mantle beams and another batch of giant pine slabs. They’ll make some pretty pine-top tables after they dry.
Sawmill cutoffs/scrap for FREE!! Come get them. We are in Winston Salem. Give me a call 336-406-8739
We build all kinds of things here on Trick-em Creek, including babies. Here’s our new woodworker apprentice, Theodore “Teddy” Harrison Gregory. We’ll get him trained up on the basics first.
First batch is rolling out today. Much more to come. Got the mill dialed in and running smooth.
Got some more sawing done today. Slab pile is growing again. We slabbed our big fella today. Smallest slabs are 18”-25” small end /big end. The largest two are 20”-28”. White pine, and wet as can be…so nothing fancy, but man they are going to make some pretty epoxy pour tables at some point once they dry out.
Getting things set up to run tomorrow on Trick-Em Creek. Dad has been here the last couple days getting set up and testing out the mill. She’s running smooth.
Gonna make some sawdust tomorrow y’all!! Hopefully we’ll get a few thousand board feet from this job. We have about 35 🪵 to run through. 😳👌😁
***free slab wood if anyone is interested.***
Trading hard work for hard work. Had a blast helping put this thing together the last couple days. It’s not all the way there, but we got a good start on it. Soon it will be properly broken in here on Trick-em Creek. Rough estimate is there’s about 5000 board feet laying on the ground around the house!!
There’s a birthday on Trick-‘em Creek today! We aren’t going to ask you to buy something, or donate money to Ukraine, or fund cancer research. All of those things are worthy pursuits, but not everyone can participate in those actions for one reason or another.
So today, in celebration of 35 years on the planet earth, we are asking you to do 1 kind thing for someone or something. It’s something within everyone’s powers to do.
Here’s to you! Here’s to another year of intentional acts of kindness, and another trip around the sun!
Just received a large load of oak and cherry slabs from my dad. They need to dry for a while yet, but so many projects to be dreamed up laying there. Can’t wait to get into it. 😳😁😎
Scratch Cooking Sunday on Trick-em Creek! Started out with homemade biscuits and home-canned pork tenderloin for breakfast. Finishing up with homemade Poke’ Bowls tonight. Coconut Shrimp and Teriyaki Chicken with fresh avocado, carrot, cucumber, sweet peppers, and pickled onions.
Sorry no pictures of breakfast. Next time.
Dang this one turned out pretty alright! Really happy with the edge profile. I was a little unsure of it during design, but it definitely turned out well. As always maple and walnut make a beautiful combination.
Thanks to Steve Wall Lumber Co in Mayodan, NC for some excellent stock. If you are looking for excellent material, great customer service, and good prices, check them out.

Didn’t have a chance to take “progress” shots for this one but here is is in the final stage. Beautiful hard maple and walnut cutting board going to a special customer in Christiansburg, VA. It’s gonna make a great center piece for her kitchen island!
We had a big announcement on Trick-em Creek this week. Baby Boy coming Summer ‘22!! We always have room in the shop for another set of little helper hands!
Trick-em Creek Woodworks had a big hookup this week with load of white pine logs from our neighbor. The arborist that cut them didn’t want them and was willing to leave them for me. They will be milled and allocated for a new shop space down the road. Thanks in advance to my dad for bringing his new band mill down for a little practice in a few weeks.
Look at this beautiful 8 piece rustic walnut coaster set! Each coaster is 3/8 - 1/4 inches thick and are finished with butcher block oil. These classy yet unpretentious pieces make a perfect resting spot for your favorite drink! Gotta finish up the storage piece and get them on the market. PM if you are interested in putting your name on them pre-sale!
Had to whip out a quick sled this morning so we could take advantage of the winter weather.
I was able to use scrap pieces from the shop. It turned out pretty nice. Runners and trucks are pressure treated and the deck is 3/4” pine.
The fire and hot chocolate were a fantastic post sledding wind down.
Cherry and walnut semi-live edge cutting board. At 18”x16”x7/8” this thing feels big. Hope the customer likes it as much as me.
Dinner looking over the creek y’all. My wife sure makes a mean piece of salmon.
Recently completed a handle swap on my favorite utility knife. Really pleased with this walnut handle.
This one is ready for some serious action.
