🎶 Sophie's Place: Healing Hearts, One Note at a Time. 🏥 Within Atrium Health Levine Children's Brenner Children’s Hospital is a musical oasis called Sophie’s Place. It’s where patients can play musical instruments, perform on a stage and record in a high-tech recording room. Here, kids can be loud. They can be creative. They can heal. Most of all, they can simply be kids. Follow along on the tour with Lainey, our wonderful music therapist.

Every child needs to be supported and understood. Just like adults, kids can feel stressed, anxious or sad. It's important to remind them that it's okay to talk about their feelings. Here are some tips to get started: ◦ Engage in Open Conversations: Encourage your child to share their thoughts and feelings. ◦ Actively Listen: Pay attention and show empathy when they speak. ◦ Keep a Routine: Ensure they have a balanced schedule with enough sleep. ◦ Encourage Play: Engage in activities that they enjoy to boost their mood. ◦ Professional Help: Don't hesitate to seek guidance from a mental health professional if needed. Remember, mental health is just as important as physical health. Our goal is to create a supportive environment where every child can thrive! 🌈✨ If your child is struggling with their mental health, please don't hesitate to reach out to your Levine Children’s provider for support—early intervention can make a significant difference. Need immediate support? The Mental Health Crisis Line is available 24/7 for anyone in distress or needing crisis support - simply call or text 988.

📣 Last night was a cheer-iffic time for our friend, Jada! 🌟 The @wakecheerleading squad threw her a surprise party ahead of the @wakembb game, signing her on as an honorary cheerleader. 🏀💫 Jada not only learned the fight song but rocked the court during her incredible “Winning Moment.” 🎉📣 Jada’s journey began with achondroplasia, a common type of short-limbed dwarfism where she received treatment at @atriumhealthwfb Brenner Children’s Hospital. Despite early challenges, she defied the odds, walking before her second birthday! 🚶‍♀️ When diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her leg in 2023, Jada faced it head-on with chemotherapy and a complex surgery. With Emory’s help, she got a custom prosthesis, replacing the upper two-thirds of her tibia. Fast forward to November 2023, and Jada triumphed over cancer! Now, she’s free to cheer on her teenage years. Congratulations, Jada! 📣🎉

McKenzie Smith's Hip Surgery Gets her Back on the Field
When McKenzie Smith injured her hip during a youth soccer game, all she wanted was to get back on the field, and all her parents wanted was the best care for their 11-year-old daughter. They found that care in Dr. Allston Stubbs, who repaired her torn labrum with minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery at Brenner Children’s Hospital, the only hospital in the region designated as a Level I children’s surgery center, and McKenzie got back to doing what she loves ⚽️ “There are lots of people who do arthroscopic hip surgery,” said McKenzie’s mother, Shannon, “and it’s wonderful to have one of the country’s best right here.” Read more about McKenzie’s care journey: https://bit.ly/3F1vFMM

Meet our friend Eddie the Excavator 🏗️
Meet our friend Eddie the Excavator 🏗️ Our patients recently gathered to watch Eddie make room for Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's new care tower. “Eddie was so interactive,” said Alisa Starbuck, DPN, APRN, NNP-BC, NEA-BC, president, Brenner Children’s. “The children got to ask him questions, watch him work and even eat a watermelon. The whole crew was down below to wave to the children, so this was just a fabulous event for our children.” Growth is always fun, but thanks to Eddie, it's been extra special!
