Happy birthday, Walt Disney World!! 50 years old and still killing it!

I felt inspired to find some of my old nametags for a few minutes of nostalgia this morning. I was so proud to put on that first nametag as a freshly turned 18-year old. When I decided to move on and try new things, I was sad to take my nametag off one last time. At the same time, I knew that I had gone through an immense amount of growth as a person in those 14 years.

Ch-ears to you, Disney! I think I'll stay up late and watch some new fireworks tonight!

When the internet is slow, but when you have views like this . . . work still feels pretty awesome! The kids are making friends with the other campers with dogs and kids. I'm enjoying the cool breeze and 75 degree weather here at the picnic table. I think it's about time to head out and explore some more!

By the way - if you have any suggestions on what to enjoy in Lake Tahoe this time of year with kids, let me know!

I love the days when I get to focus on productive activity. Helping my clients, focusing on their business needs.

And then my husband thinks to bring me tacos. It's a perfect Wednesday at the moment!!

Just because I get to work from home exclusively doesn't mean I don't enjoy an excuse to not work in my yoga pants! Today is International Badge Day, so I proudly took my Delta Zeta badge from my badge box and pinned it on my dress. 😊

Amelia and I took a break for a picnic lunch today. I used a folding TV tray for our bowls and cups. She told me it looked like a work lunch. So what we do? We talked about work and business. It was highly sophisticated . . . until she busted out the noodle fingers and we laughed and laughed 🤣

So two quick tips from me:
#1 - take time to eat lunch away from your desk as often as possible. Having that break in your day gives your brain some time to refresh!

#2 - let the noodle fingers happen even if forks are made for eating! Laughing is so good for us!! 🤣🤗

Here's a picture of what I look like while doing online training - smiling and happy to be here! I just completed an information protection and security refresher while working for a couple of my clients. Don't let my big cheesy grin fool you: I take info security seriously! 🤓

If I'm working for you or your company, I'm protecting you and your clients' information as if it were my own. I can't imagine working any other way.

My daughter broke one of my old keepsakes this week. This musical bear was around for probably 35 years, and it was a constant part of my bedroom décor growing up. Sure, it gathers dust, and the musicbox didn't get much play time over the years. But it brought back happy memories. ☺️ Amelia started to play with it over the last week or so. Then it got bumped onto the floor and broke.

So I had a choice. I could yell and be mad and frustrated. Or I could choose to console my sweet girl, make her feel better and help her move on from feeling sad about it. I chose the latter because compassion for her feelings felt so much better than being mad about losing a keepsake.

The best part is that I was able to sweep up the mess, love on my daughter, make sure she was feeling better, and then I went back to getting my work done for my clients. Spending this time with her is so precious, and I'm so glad I have the ability to make my schedule and have the autonomy to start and stop my work as needed. This was needed, and even if Amelia doesn't remember it years from now, I will.

PS - ignore the mismatched leggings and socks - they were comfy on a chilly day! 😆

I know how goofy this picture looks, but it captured a sweet moment in my day today! When little Bubba got home from school, sister girl asked to have a snack picnic in the backyard. I was taking a break between tasks I needed to get done for my clients. I'm so glad I took her up on this idea! We relaxed, soaked up some vitamin D 😎, and I even learned that Bubba perfected some sweet dance moves in dance class at school today!

I love working from home, and I love being able to take these breaks with my sweet kiddos. After our picnic, they went on their merry way, and I had peace and quiet to knock out more work! 😊

I'm taking a little ski break this week, and it has been so good for me! Fresh air, mountains and snow plus time with my friend Sarah = a refreshed Melissa. I've pinched myself every day because it almost feels too good to be true - until I wipeout on the slope, and then it's totally real! 🤣

The almost unreal part is that I haven't skipped a beat in serving my clients as their virtual assistant. I've even confirmed a new long term contract that will start in the new year.

As I'm getting to know my clients better, I am realizing how much fun they all are! I feel like I am really helping them move forward in their own businesses. They focus on what they need to, and I take care of the tasks that need to get done alongside them.

Any time you think you're ready to get started as a VA too, send me a message. Or connect with Your VA Lab ☺️ and then thank me later! 😁

This was me rushing to a client meeting yesterday. Yes, there was some brisk walking, and I may have been slightly out of breath. But I was insanely happy about all of this! I just spent half the day with a dear friend celebrating his 40th birthday at Epcot. We had margaritas at lunch and enjoyed the beautiful Florida fall day. I bookended the fun with work - a little at home and a little from my car in the parking lot.

Just 3 months ago, I felt that losing my stable corporate job was going to be terrible. I worried about how I would find something new in this upside down year of 2020. I could have let this job loss really throw me for a loop.

Instead, I found that I am confident in my skills and abilities to help others, and there was a readymade option for me in becoming a virtual assistant. I paired my confidence in myself with the expertise of the ladies at Your VA Lab to get myself to the point where I quickly opened for business as a virtual assistant.

Now I feel like I was handed a gift when my old job was eliminated. Working with entrepreneurs who are building their businesses is so fun! Having an incredible amount of flexibility is just what this momma of 2 needed. Yet I get to balance out the family time with the sense of accomplishment I feel when I'm completing projects for my clients. The cherry on top? I can still find time for my own side gig with Scout & Cellar // Wine Down with Melissa!

So, if you are looking for positive news from 2020, here's a bright spot for you. If you want to learn more about launching your own business from home and think you'd be a great virtual assistant, I want you to go to Your VA Lab first. Or if you are running your own business and need help, I just might be the person you're looking for!

It's Friday the 13th in the year 2020 😱, but I couldn't be more excited about the possibilities ahead of me! I have my first client contracts signed as a Virtual Assistant. My first onboarding call was so much fun this morning! I'm sitting in my new favorite work spot at home in the comfiest clothes with my daughter in the room next to me. I'm not concerned about what my boss thinks about my outfit or background for our Zoom call, and I am excited about making a difference for the wonderful people I am choosing to work with right now! 😁

What has made all the difference for me is the ladies at Your VA Lab and their support and mentoring. The training they provided and the community they're fostering is just what I needed to launch this business. Anyone thinking about doing what I have done needs to check them out!

I am so grateful for the opportunity to work today! Now off to tackle to the to do list 🤩

Council Post: How A Virtual Assistant Can Help Your Business This Year 10/06/2020

Here's a short article from Forbes that I found. It references some of the tasks a virtual assistant (VA) can handle. What I am finding is there isn't a one-size-fits-all description for what a VA can handle, but this breaks it down a bit!
