Mount Saint Echo
Worcester, MA- area based musician dabbling in COVID-19 induced bedroom recordings of a mediocre yet personally cathartic nature.

Oh my gah! I haven't done a g-damn thing in like 6 months! Not for lack of trying. But it is almost Christmas so jingle the dingles and give Santa a Fanta! Always remind the ones you love that they are special. You know... š

Perseids is coming!
The 'Best Meteor Shower Of The Year' Is Happening. Here's How You Can See It. The Perseids meteor shower has been called "The best meteor shower of the year." It peaks in mid-August.
Tracking guitars last night at home. Vocals are next, then off for mixing and mastering. First single should be premiering soon on all your favorite platforms.
Tracking some things at home for a first official single tonight, but was reminded that this oddball misfit is almost 10 years old. I wrote it in basement apartment in Shrewsbury between the hours of 1 am and 6 am after watching Repo Man (which is where my main band J Frank Parnell gets its moniker from).

Happy to say some drum tracks were recorded today. As much as I am trying to do the ābedroom recordingā thing, no amount of tricks can fool my ears into believing programmed midi vst drums could sound as good as the real thing. Thanks to Roger Lavallee for doing all the technical / engineering stuff and Greg āArtieā Olsen for hitting drums and cymbals with sticks.
Itās been a lot of years since Iāve performed in front of an audience, and somehow playing in front of people is much easier than playing in front of a camera in my room.
Anyway, trying to kick off the rust and get ready for the end of social distancing, so hereās me covering Buffalo Tomās āFrozen Lake.ā

I had a virtual "drum" lesson yesterday with the indomitable and ever gracious Zach Lind from Jimmy Eat World. We talked about some drumming concepts, like how to push the song along with subtle changes to beats, as well as some cool home studio ideas for virtual kits to try in Logic. I'll be taking a few of my demo songs and deconstructing them until I have what I feel is a proper, listenable 4 song EP to share with the world (in the spirit of my favorite Revelation Records releases of the mid-90s).
We move at a snail's pace, but we keep moving. :)
For my drummer friends: Zach has been offering lessons online and his schedule seems pretty flexible. Dude is super knowledgeable and really down to earth. Follow him on Twitter or Insta if interested, as he announces when he has slots opening.

Remember the 20-aughts? I try not to. Those were confusing times for me but I was lucky enough to be in a band with some very cool folks. Said band had a MySpace page and, well, we all know what happened with that. I caught wind of SpaceHey yesterday and decided to build a profile. In the era of social media 2.0, MySpace seemed so much simpler (or maybe I was just simpler). SpaceHey seems to try to recapture the early MySpace vibe, so in that spirit, I leave this here:

Mount Saint Echo's Profile | SpaceHey.com SpaceHey.com ā a space for friends. It's a friendly place to have fun, meet friends, and be creative!
This is a cover I did for fun. I absolutely own not one shred of rights to this song. It was written and performed by Jimmy Eat World Ā©Turkey On Rye publishing 2004.
Ben Vigeant sang lead vocals. Erin Vigeant sang background vocals. I did all the other stuff.
New name, same game. I decided I felt awkward about self-promotion, so maybe if I went under a different moniker, it might feel less about "me"... the name alludes to a mass of equipment that used to reside in a practice space I habited with Burd and Asimilados and J Frank Parnell. One key facet of said pile was an old Roland Space Echo unit that I drooled at. Not deep, but with enough time I'm sure I could construct a better narrative.
Sanguine; Words and music by Justin Vigeant (2021)
I ascribe to the belief that art and music do not exist in a vacuum, but act upon and within a cultural, economic, and political ecosystem. Although I have written more politically charged songs in other projects, this project has been more introspective. Nevertheless, even introspection derives from worldview, inseparable from the collective anxieties of our friends and families.
This is an historical moment to be greatly celebrated.

On 12/31/2010 I moved back home to MA after 9 years living outside of Atlanta (OTP). Over the past decade I've continued to write songs, play in bands, buy far too much gear, experiment with home recordings on Garageband, etc. I've had a handful of songs from this period that just kind of lived in silos on YouTube or an external hard drive collecting dust.
It took the pandemic to give me enough of an attention span to re-explore some of the ideas, as well as write some newer songs; some brand new, some based on an orphaned riff or two that opened up new ideas to follow. To kind of "centralize" it all and share, I figured a social media page would be of help. I also wanted to, as an act of superfluous catharsis, give a space to reflect on the past 10 years: the hope, pessimism, successes, failures, and everything in between. This is documentation of a decade peppered with so much movement and evolution that will certainly not cease anytime soon, but perhaps warranted a mile marker for keeping track.
