Love it when books inspire artwork! My K friends loved the story of Rainbow Fish.. and creating their own sparkly work. Will move onto the background next!

Getting ready to spread the LOVE with these Jim Dine inspired works of art. First grade friends learned about symmetry, warm and cool colors, as well as how highlights and shading can help make a picture appear 3D. I love how they look all together!

I came home with paint on my shoes, glasses and pants… my kind of work conditions!! I do as much as I can to keep this place clean.. but huge shout out….Custodians Rock!!

Heart Art!

I admit that my fun teaching K-3 art has come with many illnesses.. while feeling under the weather, I have not been creating my own artwork. Today, I returned to the studio!!! What a gift it is, to play, explore color, and create. Good for the soul!

After a snowy day, it’s nice to work on hot hot hot cocoa with first graders! Don’t they look delish?

HOO inspired this project?? .nelson.art my second grade friends had fun learning about wet on wet watercolor painting techniques and resist painting. I love how they came out.. the articulated wings add extra fun!

White canvas can be intimating to many artists…Activate the canvas!! I used a poem.. inspired by photos. Now I have something to respond to.

After a break from creativity, my self care plan is to incorporate more creative play in my day. Today I was playing with sketch combined with photography. Always fun to play while using images with meaning. My beautiful girl!

Intuitive collage. Cut paste cut paste cut paste. This piece was made in a matter of 30 minutes. Great exercise in following your instinct, and allows no time for the inner critic to chime in. So fun to step back and see what comes through. Grab a glue stick, scissors and a magazine.. see what images speak to you.

I was inspired by a very high contrast artist that used bold shapes. I tried a piece like this.. using the almond shape to represent an eye. So interesting that someone else’s work can be beautiful, but if I try the same style it feels slightly uncomfortable…almost like wearing some else’s prescription eyeglasses. So I came back and applied my own loose free style over the top. The beauty of art.. there is no wrong… this piece just wasn’t done YET!
