Military Children's Charity

Military Children’s Charity exists to enrich the lives of American Service member’s children.

YES we did! Last week, Military Children's Charity, Inc. and our Founder Isaiah Navarro delivered over 1,660 New Books to 4 schools aboard Camp Pendleton to replenish their School Libraries for our U.S. Military Children and Teenagers. Additionally, this week, over 360 more New Books will go to a U.S. Army command stationed in the local communities, (not attached to a U.S. Military Installation).

Every year, Military Children's Charity, Inc., an All-Volunteer organization, distributes thousands of New Books to U.S. Military Children stationed throughout Southern California and a couple dozen Bereaved U.S. Military Children and Teens.

Thank you this year to Barnes & Noble Tustin Marketplace, Ferrari of Newport Beach and St. Hedwig's Catholic School for their incredible generosity in hosting collection drives this past year.

Isaiah founded MCC when he was 14 years old, in 2010, to recognize and appreciate U.S. Military Children, like himself. Today, Isaiah is 27 years old. His favorite part of his non-profit is being able to personally deliver gifts of appreciation to the U.S. Military Families.

Military Children's Charity has been so incredibly honored to have Ferrari of Newport Beach as our generous holiday sponsor the past 5 years now! In late December 2022, Ferrari of Newport Beach hosted their Annual Holiday Event once again in support of our non-profit, this year asking all of the Ferrari owners in Orange County to donate new books to our U.S. Military Children and Teenagers in Southern California!

Also, on-hand for this event was the United States Army Color Guard which is something that I know is incredibly special to all Americans who attended. The applause was astounding. A tremendous thank you to both Lieutenant Colonel Johann Hindert and the Los Angeles Army Recruiting Battalion for their patriotic demonstration and playing of our National Anthem.

**U.S. Military Children** Certainly not the most glamorous cause. This post will not get more than a dozen likes, if that.

In fact, often Americans are quick to support American Servicemembers, their spouses & our U.S. Veterans. However, what about our U.S. Military Children? They are often overlooked & not given a second thought.

Did you know that among the U.S. Population of over 331 million individuals, at present, there are only around 1.2 million military children with parent(s) serving on active duty & in total, nearly 2 million “force dependent children,” (which would include reserves)?

Our U.S. Military Children did not volunteer to serve. They did not choose the military lifestyle, it chose them! These children experience frequent relocations, some might attend up to 9 schools by graduation. They often experience prolonged separations from one (or both) of their parent(s). Our U.S. Military Children & Teens may even experience anxiety while their parent is deployed. Imagine a child or teenager sitting in Math class, trying to concentrate, but instead holding back the tears, constantly concerned their parent might die in combat and never come home. That child actually existed, that was my own son when his father served in combat.

In the worst case scenario, like the dozens of U.S. Military Children our non-profit Military Children's Charity has served, their parent never comes home. I am pictured here with one of our Marine Corps Bereaved Children that lost her father when she was only 3 years old – today she is a teenager – and we have been with her since the funeral. I have covered her face for this family’s privacy, but this is one of over 3 dozen Bereaved Children that our team has had the honor to connect with and follow year after year with gifts of appreciation, reminding them that American’s care about their sacrifice.

Our U.S. Military Children did not sign up to join the U.S. Armed Forces, they never had a choice, but military children are the most resilient group of children in our nation. They absolutely serve too!

If you are going to give this , please consider giving towards the mission of recognizing and acknowledging our American Service member’s children.

Military Children's Charity, Inc. 27-year old Founder, Isaiah Navarro, picking up boxes of new books from our sponsor Barnes & Noble Tustin Marketplace for American Service member's children. (Isaiah founded MCC in 2010 when he was 14 years old).

For the past several years, this particular Barnes & Noble store has selected Isaiah's charity to receive this incredible donation of literally thousands of new books to be distributed to U.S. Military Children. As patrons come into this store, they are each asked if they would like to personally pick out a book to purchase for an American Service member's child. In years past, these books were used to replenish the school libraries at 4 Department of Defense (DoD) schools aboard Camp Pendleton, the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) locations aboard the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, and distributed directly to U.S. Military Children across every branch of the U.S. DoD Armed Forces at multiple military installations, including the JFTB Los Alamitos, Camp Pendleton, NWS Seal Beach, LA Air Force Base, Fort MacArthur, March AFB, Tustin Reserve Base, to the CA National Guard, and to U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army Recruiting Battalions in San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles and Orange County. Also, they touched countless Army Reserve commands throughout Southern California. That is the tremendous reach of Military Children's Charity, Inc. all volunteer team and network.

A New Day Has Come! March of 2022 marked the start of Military Children's Charity (MCC) 13 year of operations as a non-profit, acknowledging and recognizing American Service member’s children & teenagers.

Across MCC’s first 12 years, our all-volunteer team collected & distributed to Military Families over 145,000 new gifts of appreciation! Our team annually distributed backpacks filled with school supplies, Easter baskets & holiday gifts. Also, team MCC hosted 7 base-wide Baby Shower events, hosted an event distributing over 16,000 new clothing items, ensured that thousands of Military Children received new books from Barnes & Noble, plus MCC hosted countless holiday family day events & summer barbeques for Military Families in Southern California across multiple branches of the U.S. Armed Forces! Finally, through the Richard K. Johnston Bereavement Program, MCC has served to date over 3 dozen children who lost a parent in service to our nation with gifts of appreciation.

In order to ensure that our charity will survive into the future, to continue to successfully serve our U.S. Military Families, it is vital that our team make necessary changes to prepare MCC for its next decade of military community service. Also, as our nation has now exited the past 2 decades of wars, MCC is preparing ways to best support our U.S. Military Children moving into the future. Moving forward, instead of collecting and distributing new toys & gifts year-round:

1. First, team MCC has chosen to champion a new program, “Lew’s Library,” named in honor of our Founder Isaiah’s Grandfather who passed away in 2020. Lew had an absolute passion for reading and as one of MCC’s donors was constantly giving new books for our U.S. Military Families to enjoy. Lew’s Library Program will focus on Reading, Literacy and distributing new books to our U.S. Military Children.

2. Next, as the Department of Defense (DoD) shifts focus towards education and specifically Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, so is MCC intending to add value for our U.S. Military Children in this area.

3. Lastly, MCC intends to deepen and enrich its Richard K. Johnston Bereavement Program even further.

MCC is no longer collecting & accepting in-kind donations. Instead, we ask MCC’s donors to please make an instant monetary donation today via our website and/or mail in a check donation to our mailing address listed below. Also, MCC is still accepting gift cards for our Bereaved Children to places like Target, Walmart & Barnes and Noble.

This past week, Military Children's Charity (MCC)'s Founder Isaiah Navarro and CEO Cherie L. Johnston, MBA visited Quantico Marine Corps Base to attend a military funeral. While in the area, they stopped by the Marine Corps Museum for a quick visit. One thing that they did not expect was to actually find the Marine Corps Museum full of United States Marines! Thank you to the large group of U.S. Marines who allowed Isaiah and Cherie to tag along on their private tour and be part of the experience.

Semper Fi!

One of Military Children's Charity (MCC)'s primary initiatives has been the Rickard K. Johnston Bereavement Program. This program was founded in March of 2010 to serve children who lost a parent in service to our nation, year round, with gifts of appreciation, through their 18th birthdays. In certain extenuating circumstances, beyond that timeframe and into the college years. Over the past nearly 13 years, MCC has served the children of countless Americans who have fallen, across multiple service branches and occupations. Also, who have passed in a variety of circumstances, from accidental passing due to military hardware failure or user error, to medical illness, to combat and to su***de. One thing has remained the same, MCC has stood by these children and teenagers, year after year, reminding them that the American public remembers and cares about what they are going through. Richard K. Johnston was killed in Vietnam, at only 20 years old, in a helicopter accident while transporting special operators. He had only been in the country a few months. Through this special bereavement program, his memory and namesake have lived on. This past week, MCC's CEO Cherie L. Johnston, MBA and Founder Isaiah Navarro, visited the Vietnam Memorial, located his name and arrived to find someone had left this special card in advance, the name of an article MCC wrote a few years ago. (Thank you). MCC is eternally grateful to the countless Americans who have stepped forward, often anonymously, the past many years to support our good works. Please know, without the generosity of the American public, we cannot continue to quietly serve these families.

Please donate, thank you:

In a very rare out of the vault exclusive, we are releasing a few photographs from Military Children's Charity's Founder, Isaiah Navarro. Isaiah's father depicted here served 20 years as U.S. Marine, in locations such as Mogadishu Somalia and the Sunni Triangle, Iraq. Isaiah founded Military Children's Charity in 2010 to recognize the years of prolonged separations between himself and his father, the frequent relocations around the world his father experienced and the anxiety Isaiah felt when his father was deployed into combat areas. Today, Military Children's Charity has distributed over 145,000 gifts of appreciation to U.S. Military children, served over 3 dozen bereaved children year round with gifts, hosted/co-hosted countless large scale events for the U.S. Military families and remains a completely All-Volunteer organization. No salary has ever been paid. Isaiah works full time today as an engineer supporting the mission of the Department of Defense (DoD).

Hooray for America's military children based in Southern California. For yet another year, Barnes & Noble of Tustin Marketplace has selected Military Children's Charity (MCC) as the recipient of their annual holiday books sales. Every patron who visits this B & N location in late November and December will be asked if they would like to purchase a new book for a U.S. military child or teenager. All of the books purchased will be donated to MCC, who in turn ensures that they are distributed across the various branches of the U.S. Armed Forces in Southern California. In fact, one year, these books actually replenished the entire school libraries at four Department of Defense schools aboard Camp Pendleton and supported a local school at the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach. These new books are highly regarded by U.S. Military families, so if you are local, please take a moment to stop by this store and contribute. We will post further details of the date the campaign begins and the address.

Since 2018, Ferrari of Newport Beach has hosted a special holiday event each December, in support of Military Children's Charity (MCC). Local Ferrari owners in Orange County (OC) California each fill their vehicles with new gifts for military children, and place them all under the tree at a large social gathering, before the Ferraris then caravan around the OC. Once again, Ferrari of Newport Beach is generously hosting this unique event solely for MCC in December of 2022! These new toy donations often cover multiple military commands and bases throughout Southern California with gifts, ensuring that the holidays are extra festive for our local military children. However, this year, both Ferrari and MCC will be collecting new books for our military children and teenagers, instead of toys! Stay tuned for more exciting details to come.

Our non-profit is All-Volunteer, no one has ever been compensated for their time in giving to this cause. Right now, during COVID, we are lower than ever on donations and need support from the American public to continue our good works, including a bereavement program which has almost 2 dozen children and teenagers right now, (many from special forces families). If you are able to give, we would certainly appreciate it! Either way, we hope you enjoy these photos of some of our amazing donors and volunteers in action!
