MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Greetings! Just in time for Christmas Eve, here is an old story written many years ago by Gregory Saur. At the time, he was thinking... well, I don't know what he was thinking. But I do know, much like fruitcake, it went nowhere. That is, until now. Because now here it is! Hope you enjoy it!
SANTA'S NIGHT by Gregory Saur
Our story begins at the North Pole. It's Christmas Eve and there's a problem. No, it's not the reindeer droppings on Mrs. Claus's best rug problem (Prancer, really?). This is something worse. Much worse...
“Rudolph! Where’s Rudolph?” bellowed a grumpy Santa stalking crossly through the stables. His heavy black boots, freshly cleaned and polished by Snardy the elf, squelched in a puddle of melted snow and reindeer droppings. Silence greeted him.
A nervous elf spoke up “You want Rudolph, the reindeer? The one with the red nose?”
Santa rolled his eyes and snorted, causing his beard to fly up in his mouth. "Hmpherff," he spat. "I ought to give you a red no--"
Hastily the elf spoke, “He’s out, Santa. The storm blew out the power down in Candy Cane Lane and Rudolph’s nose is now the stoplight at Eggnog Intersection.”
It was true, eggnog was the center of Christmas. Seeing Santa’s face shoveled the elf in motion.
"I'll fetch him now!" he cried, Quickly he sprang and flew like a flash... and sent the youngest elf out to dash through the snow for Rudolph.
"Who will guide my sleigh tonight?” asked an angry Santa as the little elf's backside scampered out the door into the bitter cold.
The elf who'd spoken before now sucked his tongue like a candy cane. He eyed the other stable elves nervously. The tallest one in the back, Snardy, stared bleakly down at Santa's smudged boots.
"Merry Christmas to me," he mumbled miserably.
The other stable elves said nothing. They hastily started cleaning the dirt floor with rakes like they were carefully frosting a gingerbread house.
Santa was left with a heaving jelly belly. Christmas Eve, the middle of the worst snowstorm since Rudolph’s first flight, and the famed reindeer was not around. Santa remained standing in the cold, putrid puddle like a Christmas Poinsettia tossed on a dung heap.
The youngest elf, named Slid, soon returned alone. His green outfit was covered in snow and ice, he resembled a frosted Christmas tree. "Said he was busy," he muttered in his high boyish elf, staring down at his pointed shoes.
Santa's jolly belly sucked in and he m gave an exasperated sigh. Then his face crumpled in despair.
“Why go out anyway Santa?” Slid asked. “You know most people don’t believe in you or in what we do.”
Silence descended upon the room fiercer than kids falling upon an open box of Christmas candy.
Santa stared down at the young elf sadly. “That is precisely why I must go out, to give hope to those few who still do believe.” Santa shook his white head and crouched beside the elf. “You see, the world has much doubt and so little faith. The faith must live one." He sighed. "For most, it may be too late, but there's always hope. It is the children who truly believe." He looked into the young elf's doubtful eyes and smiled. "A child’s belief overrides a world of doubt. One day those children grow up and I hope their belief grows with them. That is why I must go. It only takes one to make it worthwhile. One can change the hearts of many. Now do you understand?”
Slid slowly nodded. Being a child, it was easy to understand Santa. All doubt melted from his face like marshmallows vanishing into hot chocolate.
"I'll be right back!" he said.
"It's no use," Snardy called after him. "It's nearly midnight and the storm--it's only getting worse!"
Slid only ducked his head and charged into the blizzard.
Rudolph barged in soon after, covered in ice with Slid clinging tightly to his back. Behind them was a foggy vanishing Christmas Eve.
The stable elves backed away as Rudolph ducked his head tiredly. Being a living traffic light in a snowstorm was not a reindeer game and he was exhausted. He just wanted to--
Just then, Santa came to say, “Rudolph, go fly a kite! You ruined my night!”
Rudolph hung his head lower, his usual bright nose dull as an unlighted Christmas tree. Slid hopped off the deer's back and knocked the snow from the front of his hat. "Is it... is it too late?" he asked.
Behind them, the other reindeer, led by Dasher and Prancer, stood just inside the stables with eyes wide with alarm. They should be up in the sky and pulling the sled by now.
Santa sat heavily down on a bucket, suddenly looking older than a fruitcake in May. “I guess you’re right, young Slid. Perhaps it is best if I just forget the whole thing. Christmas never was about me anyway.”
Rudolph’s head perked up alarmed and a terrified hush fell through the stable like a dad’s face when he opened his yearly Christmas tie, uglier than the last.
“No Christmas?” wailed the elves.
“Bbraeah!” wailed the reindeer (meaning, “No flying perilously through heavy now and fog with nothing but a red nose the light the way?”)
Slid looked up at Santa. “But Santa, you just said the children need you.”
Santa shook his head. “They don’t need me. They have the Baby for that. All I do is help show them how. Christmas is the birthday of the King. That is the only reason why I do what I do. It's to celebrate the birth of hope and salvation for all.” He through a bitter coal-black look at Rudolph. "At least it is what I used to do. Without my light tonight, I am lost."
Slid shook his head back at Santa. “Rudolph is late because he helped others, just like you do, or used to do, on this night. At least don’t blame him.” He wiped a stray tear from his eye. "Maybe only a few kids believe in you, but all the reindeer never doubted you, Santa."
"Y-Yes," sputtered Snardy. A tall, skinny elf, he shook his head vigorously. "Slid is right. And we elves believe in you too, Santa."
Santa looked up, joy returning to his face like a child returning home for Christmas. “From the mouth of a child.” He jumped to his feet, throwing his arms wide. To all, he said, “We must show others how to act, not with despair and blame, but with love and hope!"
"But isn't it too late?" the nervous elf said timidly.
"Oh, it's never too late!" roared Santa. "The sleigh is packed, is it not? The reindeer are here! And it's Christmas, the season of miracles!"
"B-But, Santa!" the nervous elf said, licking his lips. "We ran out of coal for the naughty ones! A bunch of it was used to heat the homes when the power went out!"
"Well, think of something then!" Santa said, going over to hug Rudolph. "I'm going to get my hat and then we're off!" Turning to Rudolph, Santa spoke into his ear. “Come, Rudolph, forgive an old man and guide him on this most blessed and glorious of nights.”
Rudolph brayed in agreement, or in warning to keep the jovial belly from crushing him. All the elves cheered, all except young Slid. The little elf jumped on Santa's back and climbed up to cling to fur-covered shoulders. "And I'm going too!"
The nervous elf's face fell with despair. "What can I think of?" he wailed.
Snardy came to stand next to him and nudged his shoulder. "I have an idea." His gaze was planted on Santa's boots, now crusted with reindeer droppings. "We've finished cleaning out the stables, right?"
So Santa took off from the North Pole yet again, beneath the stars from Heaven and above the children of Earth, meeting somewhere in the middle. Oh, he didn’t go to all the houses, this had stopped long ago when myth squeezed him from reality like cranberry sauce from a metal can. Instead, he visited only ones who still held hope... and needed him the most. The ones who held belief not in him, but belief in Christmas, the true Christmas. For these remaining few, Santa left the most precious of gifts. Not toys, not money, not even happiness. Instead, it was the gift of hope wrapped in love. Children waking up to loving parents, households coming together as one whole family, and loved ones forgiving each other. After all, toys break, money is spent, and happiness lasts only a while, but true love lasts forever.
And when it was all finished in that single glorious night, which of course it was, because, after all, miracles like that are minor compared to what is celebrated on this night of nights, Santa made one final stop.
It was at a small church, covered in snow. Darkness covered the land, but a single light shown above a humble manger scene. There, with the shepherds and sheep, a large man with a white beard and wearing a red suit bent on a knee and bowed his head. A little elf knelt next to him, holding his hat in his hand. Behind them, the reindeer watched in awe at where a mother tenderly looked down at her baby child.
Christmas had come. Joy to the world.
After a prayer, Santa took to the sky again. On the way up, he allowed Slild to take the reins.
"What do I do?" Slid squeaked as the sleigh lurched upwards.
"Just follow the light!" Santa told him, clapping him on the back. "He knows where to go!"
Out in front, Rudolph's red nose happily led the way.
"Yippee!" Slid cried. Rising to his knees, he gripped the reins tighter. "I got this!"
Santa grabbed the back of the elf's jacket to keep him from falling out the front. "Er, on second thought... oh, keep it up." Turning his head back to humans below, he shouted, "Merry Christmas, to all and all a--GOOD NIGHT!!! Slid, slow down! Sit down or I'll tell your mother!"
The sleigh only sped faster, driven by hope and innocence.
Christmas lives on. May it always live on. And so to all, have a very merry and blessed Christmas, even to those weary from searching for it at the shopping mall.
THE END
Ah, much like egg nog and Christmas cookies, that hit the spot, right? I'm not sure why this story didn't take off like Santa's sleigh being pulled by reindeer, but I'm sure glad about it! Instead of being rich and successful, now Gregory is writing novels for Saur & Saur! It's like getting a Christmas present! Wait... thinking of Christmas presents... last Christmas, those "chocolate balls" I got in my stocking... they certainly looked a lot like reindeer drop--oh, no... I thought they were rotten, or something... and I ate them all in one bite! Oh, please Santa, find some more coal for me this year! I would write more, but I think I'm going to be sick... Merry Christmas...
DROWNING HATE by Gregory Saur
***** 5 STAR REVIEW!!!
Reviewed by Romuald Dzemo for Readers’ Favorite
Drowning Hate by Gregory Saur examines the journey a group of fourth graders from South Burbank County must take to overcome their differences and learn to trust each other. The teenagers are looking forward to having a wonderful summer — hanging out together and playing baseball. However, they are pitted against each other, torn apart by the color of their skin. A teacher desperate to get rich opens the floodgates of an evil that might just destroy them all. The boys must find common ground, unite, and overcome their differences to beat the evil D-Man and his sinister schemes.
This is a well-plotted narrative that offers many lessons to young readers. They will enjoy the characters with their typical behaviors of teenagers, mirroring the culture in which they have grown up. They have learned to discriminate against and judge each other because of the color of their skin and those who identify with each other share some common affinities. George and Kaden stick together, and they have a light skin color while Micah and Delvin are dark. Jeremiah is unique and could be the bridge linking both camps. Gregory Saur's novel will teach young readers what really matters in life and help them understand that human worth goes beyond wealth and physical looks. The transformation that the characters undergo as they face a strong challenge had me spellbound and I marveled at what can happen to people when they choose tolerance over their prejudices and teamwork over personal differences. Drowning Hate is a thoughtful, engaging narrative that is character-driven.

New book is almost here! DROWNING HATE by Gregory Saur:
The author of DIVING CATCH and BEST SHOT FORWARD, Gregory Saur presents a stunning new novel about the power of friendship and how working together with love and understanding is unstoppable, no matter the odds.
HATE HAS NO BOUNDARIES...
It was to be the perfect summer for the rising fourth graders of South Burbanks County. Everything changes when racial strife and greed threaten their community. It will take a special group of kids to drown the hate. Evil lurks in the shadows. The perfect summer is about to turn into the perfect nightmare.
Playing baseball, or hanging out at their houses, George and Kaden are almost always together. The same could be said about Micah and Delvin. Unfortunately, the pairs of best friends share one thing in common: the mutual dislike between George and Micah.
George and Kaden have light skin. Micah and Delvin have dark skin. This never mattered, until suddenly it did. With Jeremiah stuck in the middle, the boys battle and bicker until things get out of hand. Suddenly, the boys are painfully thrust into the world of grown-ups, a place where the color of skin is only overshadowed by the value of money.
When a desperate teacher schemes to strike it rich, she unleashes an evil plot that quickly spirals out of control. Stopping it would take a miracle. Unfortunately, any miracle must first drown out a whole lot of hate. The boys will have to put aside their differences to have any hope of making this happen.
Led by the mysterious masked D-Man, evil will stop at nothing. Drowning hate is only the beginning; if the boys are not careful, it could just be their last summer ever.

The hardcover of DIVING CATCH is usually listed as $30.99, but for a limited time, it is available for the low price of $8.80. While rising star author Saur is humble and understands the importance of patience, he made it clear there were very few copies left for the amazing sale. "I mean, there are very few copies left," he reiterated minutes after another of his books was bought, according to sources close to his heart.
We'll see whether or not Saur will run out of copies of DIVING CATCH available for $8.80 for a limited time before the weekend.

Saur & Saur Making Waves? Book being considered for PenCraft Book Award!
An evil school plot makes kids behave better and work harder... who could and WHO WOULD stop such a thing?
Nico Hashire is moving again. Leaving California for Virginia, he expects a quiet, boring new life. Never does he imagine he's walking into a truly bizarre and evil plot.
Sheri Jamison and Veronica Park are two best friends who feel something truly bizarre and evil is happening at Highland Middle School. Kids are being categorized and separated... but why?
Kendall Santiago just plays video games and only wants to be left alone. He certainly doesn't see himself as a hero.
Then the unthinkable happens. Bad kids start being good and bullying suddenly becomes a thing of the past. The kids suspect it's something in water... or at least in the juice.
Are their teachers really turning kids into "good" zombies? Do they dare to make waves and find out?
With a shady private school stuck in the middle, the kids quickly find themselves in deep water. Especially when they find a threatening message meant for a teacher... There's definitely something kooky going on.
It will take teamwork, twists and turns, and all sorts of surprises to figure it all out. Hopefully they can do it before one of them pays the ultimate price... or turns into a "good" zombie.
Since our last post, we have been swamped with messages from people all over. We figure this is a good time to respond to some of these messages. Let’s jump right in!
Let’s see…
Um, okay, JimAccumulatorProporich, I think you got the wrong site. We are about books, but we are NOT bookies. We cannot give you odds or any bets for the Sox game tonight. Now, about the game last night… how much are you willing to bet? Better yet, if you’re looking for good value, check out one of our sports books. We suggest ROYAL PAINS AND ANGELS IN THE OUTHOUSE… there are a few characters you might be interested in. Thanks for the message, but please don’t send any more.
Ooh, here’s something! We have a query from a Mr. Patterson. He wants Gregory Saur to write a mystery thriller and then send it to him so he could add a few paragraphs. He proposes they publish it together… and he wants the story in 2 weeks. We are very sorry, Mr. Patterson, but Saur doesn’t write with strangers. We are sure this rejection is just a small bump on your road to success. Keep trying and best wishes.
We’re sure there are plenty of messages about our books… they’re just all in the back. We have a message from AuthorNLimbo asking for an advance for his next book. Sorry, Author, but this is the publishing industry. We don’t PAY our authors. They pay us. You must be new to this business…
Speaking of authors, we got a message from our friend B.A. Lepton. *Sigh* No, Mr. Lepton. There have been no queries in regard to making your latest book into a movie. BOB WARS: MAY THE FORCE PASS THROUGH YOU, EPISODES I-VI is not a bestseller. The last, and first, and only, reviewer was the editor who quit midway through the job. She said it stinks and that was the finest compliment she could offer before throwing up. Please stop making us regret ever publishing your… work.
Ooh! Here’s something! A prince from Wakanda is asking for help! He needs money to get his vast fortune out of his home kingdom! Once he is free, he promises to share his multimillion-dollar fortune with those who assist him! This is amazing! Be patient, my friend. Once we sell enough books to raise the money, we will be sure to send it your way. Then we will be rich!!! Until then, you can assist by buying some of our books. We suggest starting with the FINDING INNOCENCE trilogy. That was our first success, and we hope the trilogy inspires you during your hard times.
Okay, the next message is from DevestatedNpain. He is trying to watch MLS games, Women's World Cup games, MLB games, La Liga games, Bundesliga games, and pickleball tournaments...as well as watch college football in the fall and into January. According to him, this will cost him over 4 streaming services and half his salary per month. He wants to know if it is okay to sell his wife's car and rent out his children to his in-laws while secretly moving to his mom's basement. He promises to explain it all to his wife in a text message after it is all done. Uh... I think we're going to cool it with these messages. Keep sending them... we think... but don't expect any answers anytime soon. The last message reminded us the Women's World Cup starts soon and most of the games are 1 am and 3 am Eastern time. We plan to play video games late into the night to prepare, so will be busy. Until then, keep checking back for updates on Gregory Saur's newest book. It's coming!
Greetings from Saur & Saur Publishing! It’s been a while since our last post, so we apologize (we know so many of you rush to check Facebook every morning and night in hopes of seeing our latest news)! We have been busy preparing Gregory Saur’s latest book, but now are happy to report it is nearly finished! Look for DROWNING HATE in the Fall of 2023.

Complete Review:
Visitors from New Earth City by Gregory Saur is an action-packed sci-fi adventure. In it, we are introduced to two worlds that couldn’t be more different. The first is New Earth City where there are gamers, quests, and portals. Here we follow two brothers Felix and Rafe and Felix’s Muon partner, Tyson. It is a world of magic and mystery, with overlords and monsters. The other is a post-pandemic world in Littleton, Virginia where we meet Samantha and Tommy. Their only source of adventure is provided by the books they read. Their worlds collide when a mission to retrieve a valuable item goes wrong. Felix and Tyson are attacked and, much to their surprise, get hurt. In a world of health points and instant healing, this is abnormal and akin to sabotage. To escape imminent death, they jump into the nearest portal, which leads them straight to Sam and Tommy’s world. Without weapons and no way back, they try to adapt. Meanwhile, bounty hunters are after Felix and want him dead, while abducting Tyson in the process. Out of frustration, Sam tosses the valuable item on the ground from which a beanstalk grows. When joined by Rafe do they dare climb the beanstalk and will it lead back to New Earth City or something more sinister? Will the bounty hunters get what they came for and will someone lose their life? Visitors from New Earth City by Gregory Saur is an exciting book that I loved reading. I enjoyed all of the details, from the clothes to the weapons and the monsters. I liked the Lionhurst Warriors the most. This book was so much fun, with Felix being the arrogant teenager he is and his brother being the wiser one. I loved the bond between Tyson and Felix and found it to be endearing. Sam was an interesting character and I loved her way of dealing with things in a manner far beyond her years. I liked the fact that the story played out in the current post-pandemic time. You can relate to Tommy’s frustration and Sam’s inability to adapt. By any standards, this is a wonderful book with interesting characters and great development. You were never left in the dark while being shown a world far beyond your wildest dreams. This is a thrilling ride and I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves sci-fi and fantasy.
