22nd Regiment Veteran Reserve Corps
I am the grandnephew of a Civil War Officer who served in the First West Virginia Cavalry and the VRC My name is Curtis "Curt" Joseph Robinette.
I am 78 years old, I served 30 years in the U.S. Navy (20 Active, 10 Reserves). I was a Government contractor to 26.5 years providing Information Technology support for Navy Education and Training. I was a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy and a Program Director for Computer Dynamics Inc., Computer Data Systems Inc., and Computer Systems Corporation. None of these companies exist today, but I don't know how much credit I deserve.
You read this and you know that it is one of our current presidential candidates talking about the other. NOT! It is a journalist talking in September 1864 about the President, Abraham Lincoln. Sadly, somethings never change, never get better, never make any sense.
For the love of our grandchildren and our country, can't we take back control before it is too late? Stand Up!
Complete Listing of the Officers of the 22nd VRC. I have identified 10 of the 17 in the picture. Thrills me to no end that this seems to be the only available remaining picture. Not in very good shape but absolutely stunning piece of history.
New Profile came through for me...
3 Ways to read. Hard Cover, Soft Cover or Kindle, which is on your phone and under $3, but The Nelsonville Food Cupboard doesn't get anything for that. However, if you get the electronic to read the book, you can make up the difference with a donation direct to them and they make out much better. Just a thought. You know, Christmas and all. 😃
Not certain how I obtained this picture or who the beautiful professional model is, but both Hiram Robinett and I appreciate it immensely. "Chauncey's Blood a Hiram Robinett Story of the Civil War is available for Christmas gifting. Monday Creek Publishing, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, fine book stores. Don't forget, all profits go directly to The Nelsonville Food Cupboard - so read a great book and feed some friends. Merry Christmas!
Gina from Monday Creek Publishing sent me a new hard cover copy of Chauncey's Blood A Hiram Robinette Story of the Civil War. It's so purdy, I had to dress up to show it off. Availailable at Monday Creek Publishing, Amazon, Barnes and Noble and fine book store everywhere.
Grand Uncle Hiram Robinett, 2nd Lieutenant 22nd Veteran Reserve Corps March 1, 1864 through June 30, 1866.
2nd Lt. Hiram Robinett's military experience.
Formation of the VRC
Washington DC Address Book (almost called it a phone book) for 1867 lists Hiram living at Mrs. Brannon's Boarding House, 447 Pennsylvania Avenue. Hiram retained his military title while working at the Freedmen's Bureau. I feel certain that he liked that a bunch.
On August 12th, 1863 Hiram Robinett was nominated for advancement to First Lieutenant, filling the vacancy created when N. W. Wheeler was advanced to Captain, in turn filling the vacancy created when Captain Harris was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg. Hiram was likely still in the Army Field Hospital in Hanover. When released, he rejoined Company "E" in Gainsville, Virginia to find out that he was recommended for promotion, only to also learn that because of the loss of his left arm, he could not muster into the new position. His cavalry career over, he resigned on October 28th and moved to Washington DC to apply for the VRC.
Hiram F. Willis 2nd Lt. January 22, 1864. His mother, Clenor (Elanor) Willis, applied for his pension on Dec. 15, 1879.
Hiram enlisted in the 84th Pennsylvania Infantry, wounded 3 times.
This day in History, President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in Ford's Theatre. Perhaps our greatest President was deprived of the opportunity of helping 4 million new citizens make the transition to actual Freedmen. In my heart, I feel certain things would have proceeded much better with Abe at the helm.
Alfred B. Grunwell, Brevet Captain, Mar 1865. Regimental Quarter Master. Freedmen's Bureau, Jacksonville, Florida.
James R. O'Beirne, Brevet Colonel, Sept 1863. Provost Marshall of Washington D.C. Tracked down John Wilkes Booth and the other 7 conspirators.
A. W. Bolenius, Captain 22nd VRC. Note: this is the only picture of A. W. Bolenius that I have been able to find. Based upon being in the 22nd VRC, having a missing right arm.
Allan Rutherford, Lieutenant Colonel, 22nd VRC.
Colonel George A. Woodward, Commanding Officer 22nd VRC
Henry Marcotte, 2nd Lieutenant, 22nd VRC
Alonzo J. Brown, 1st Lieutenant, 22nd VRC Feb 1864 - Jun 1866
William H. Bower, 1st Lieutenant, 22nd VRC.
Hiram Robinett, 2nd Lieutenant, Company Commander, Company 'A'. Camp Bradford, Baltimore, MD November 1864 - June 1865.
I have a copy of a photo that has been in the Robinette family since 1864. My cousin Sandra Lake would like to sell the original photo. It is in fairly rough condition but from the research (actually searching) I have done, it appears to be one of a kind. Looking at the formality of the picture, I don't believe that was the intent.
