“The Road to Samarkand. Miracles of Silk and Gold” Exhibition at the Arab World Institute in Paris.

This exhibition’s exposition, which includes over 300 exhibits from Uzbekistan’s 9 museums, includes objects of applied art, which are important elements of Uzbek identity and diversity.

The Friday communal prayer mosque Bibi-Khanym (‘senior princess’ or ‘senior wife’), Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Built in 1404, it is one of the largest and most impressive historic mosques in Central Asia and the Islamic world.

The mosque was built by order of Tamerlane in honor of his senior wife’s mother by 200 best architects and 500 workers brought from all the corners of his empire.

There is a popular belief that if a woman who has not be able to get pregnant for a long time comes to Bibi-Khanym Mosque, touches the Koran reading stand in its courtyard and prays, she will certainly have a baby.
