🏆 The Men's Crew of the Year goes to Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy 🇮🇪! The combination has been on the podium of every international competition that they have raced in, in the very competitive lightweight men’s double sculls. Their Olympic Gold medal came after a very tight race with Germany, and won by less than a second, for what would be the first-ever gold medal for Ireland in rowing at the Olympics. The duo went unbeaten in 2021, and had previously won gold at the World Championships in 2019. Congratulations Paul and Fintan!

🏆 The recipient of this year's Coach of the Year award is Michelle Darvill 🇨🇦! Coaching for Canada since 2009, Michelle's direction helped lead the Canadian Women's Eight to a Gold Medal win at the Olympic Games this past summer. Congratulations Michelle!

🏆 The recipient of this year's Thomas Keller Medal is Olaf Tufte 🇳🇴! Olaf's career at the international level has spanned seven Olympic Games. Along the way, he accomplished the rare feat of medalling in two Olympic boat classes: he has two Gold medals in the Men's Single Sculls, (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008) and one Silver(Sydney 2000), one Bronze(Rio 2016) in the Men's Double Sculls. Since his international debut at the World Rowing Junior Championships in 1994, Olaf has spent time racing in the single sculls, double sculls, as well as the quadruple sculls and the coxless four. Outside of his rowing, he works on his farm and is a firefighter. In 2021, he was also named a World Rowing Ambassador for the Kafue River and Rowing Centre.

The Thomas Keller Medal is the highest distinction in the sport of rowing. It is awarded to recognise an exceptional international rowing career as well as exemplary sportsmanship and legendary aspect. The award was named after the late President of FISA, Thomas Keller (Thomi). Born in 1924, Keller was elected President of FISA in 1958 as a 34-year-old and was then the youngest-ever president of an international sports federation.

🏆 The Para Crew of the Year award goes to Roman Polianskyi 🇺🇦! Roman has raced at every opportunity since the 2019 World Championships, and won every race he took part in. By the end of the 2021 season, he held the titles of Paralympic Champion, European Champion, and World Champion. He also set a new World Best Time in the PR1 men’s single sculls, and hasn’t lost a race since 2018. Congratulations Roman!

🏆 The Women's Crew of the Year is the Women's Quadruple Sculls from China 🇨🇳! Since coming together in 2019, this crew has gone unbeaten in this boat class. In dominating fashion, the Chinese crew that had won gold at the 2019 World Rowing Championships, claimed the Gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games, with a six-second margin in the A-Final – and a new World’s Best Time. Congratulations Yunxia Chen, Ling Zhang, Yang Lyu, and Xiaotong Cui!

EVENT DESCRIPTION
The 2022 World Rowing Indoor Championships (WRICH), presented by Concept2, scheduled for 25-26 February 2022, will now be staged as a fully virtual competition.

The 2022 World Rowing Indoor Championships, the pinnacle event for indoor rowers, was originally assigned to Hamburg, Germany as a physical event. The COVID-19 pandemic then created the possibility of hybrid participation. This approach would have given participants the option of taking part physically in Hamburg or virtually from anywhere in the world.

With the uncertainty caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, including new virus variants, potential lockdowns, and uncertainty in international travel, the Hamburg Organising Committee and the World Rowing Executive Committee have come to the conclusion after a detailed exchange to convert the 2022 World Rowing Indoor Championships to a virtual only event.
