As we finish up a summer full of workshops in the El 70 sector of Caracas, here's a look at some of our portraits made by our students, collaborating together!

Beyond the basics of photography, we host deep discussions about representation, gender-based issues and the value of each person's story. The power of taking up space, making a portrait that represents someone's essence - it's so gratifying to see our students work together to get it right!

We are in the middle of a busy end to summer with more workshops in the El 70 sector of Caracas and are so excited to continue to show their work!

Beyond the basics of photography, we are having deep discussions about representation, gender-based issues and the value of each person's story. We talk about sisterhood, the concept of true solidarity with other women in our world. Their images reflect not only the concepts we teach, but their own special way of seeing their world.

We hope, through their eyes, you can see a little glimpse into this community that has opened their doors to us.

Nazareth is one of our dedicated advanced students taking part in a three-month long mentorship program. Through classes, group critique and guest lectures, she is finding her visual voice and creating a personal project.

Nazareth has found a personal mission that she wants to share through her images: a series that reflects the search for self-love and acceptance, celebrating the beauty and strength of the women in her life. She is interested in using light and darkness as a metaphor for coming into one's own, particularly from her experience as an Afrovenezuelan woman.

We are so excited to bring these projects together in the form of a photozine at the end of this program, stay tuned!

Nayreth is one of our dedicated advanced students taking part in a three-month long mentorship program. Through classes, group critique and guest lectures, she is finding her visual voice and creating a personal project.

Nayreth is focusing her efforts to tell stories from her little sector of La Vega. She captures genuine moments of her family, friends and neighbors. Nayreth is pairing interviews with the images, sharing the struggles beneath the surface with images that reflect dignity and pride. As she said, everyone has a story - and they should be told.

We are so excited to bring these projects together in the form of a photozine at the end of the program, stay tuned!

A few behind-the-scenes images from our most recent workshop in the El 70 sector of Caracas. Through the local church, we were able to work with nine dedicated young women over the course of five weeks - so it's time to share their work!

Beyond the basics of photography, we had deep discussions about representation, gender-based issues and the value of each person's story. We had a pop up portrait studio for the community, a final certification ceremony and outing to the Parque del Este for fresh air and kick ball!

We are so proud of our students and the way they embody 'sororidad' or sisterhood. They were so open to learning, sharing + taking as much away from the program as possible - we cannot wait for the next workshop with this communithy that has been so supportive.

We have just wrapped up our second workshop in the El 70 sector of Caracas. Through the local church, we were able to work with nine dedicated young women over the course of five weeks - so it's time to share their work!

Beyond the basics of photography, we had deep discussions about representation, gender-based issues and the value of each person's story. One of their favorite activities was the where we invited their friends + family to take portraits and gift each person a print!

Beside the pure joy of this activity, our students really took up space and directed the studio to make the portraits of each other and their loved ones.

Nazareth, one of the mentees in our program, is spending this program to create a series of environmental portraits. She has a great way of seeing people, and wants to use her reality as a set - creating special, formal portraits of the people in her life.

In only our second meeting, she is off to a great start! We are excited to continue to show you her work over the next few months as she finds her style of portraiture.

As a part of our programming, we set up a pop up studio to make collaborative community portraits in the neighborhood. Students were able to take up space, invite friends and family to participate, and create - with everyone receiving a print to take home.

Sometimes these public spaces are not necessarily safe or open, so it meant a lot for these young girls to create + have fun - reclaiming their space.

with our students were a highlight of this workshop round in a sector of El Valle, Caracas. Students saw their neighborhood in a new way - using the curriculum to find interesting moments in what is everyday to them.

This sector deals with many difficulties, left to fend for themselves in many regards. But there is joy, connection, and beauty -- which these talented young photographers definitely found!
