The most common shark in the waters of Virgin Islands National Park is the nurse shark, Ginglymostoma cirratum. If you are lucky enough to spot a nurse shark, it will most likely be sleeping under a rock ledge or coral as these “sea puppies” are nocturnal. They feed on small fish and invertebrates that they can find in the sand and their mouths have one of the highest suction forces recorded for any aquatic vertebrate!
