Concerns for Team Luganville and Social Media regarding medal tally.
The National Game Council (NGC) for the Vanuatu National School Game 2023, would like to clear the misunderstanding concerning the above issue.
The issue in question is in relation to the female boxing competition not being recognized in the medal tally of the SHEFA 2023 VNSG. Sanma and Luganville were the only teams with female boxers.
Team Luganville expressed their concerns and dissatisfaction for Local Organizing Committee (LOC) not including the female boxers resulting in the total medal tally.
They are quoting Regulation 1.4 “Three or more Provinces and municipalities must indicate their participation in the sport in the competition”. This is not in line with their complaints.
However, Regulation 8 is more convenient to deal with their query. Regulations 8.3 stated that “Sports attracting less than three entries (in the male, female, and mixed categories respectively) from member Provincial Education Authority (PEAs) shall be eliminated from the Games Program”.
And according to Regulation 8, this clarifies and answers the issues.
The issue was raised in the Provincial Education Official (PEOs) meeting on Wednesday 30th August and the decision was made to abide to Regulation 8.
The NGC would like to make it clear that LOC main function is to manage and coordinate the game. The rules and disputes of the game is managed by the National Game Council (NGC) and currently the Provincial Education Officers, the chairman of the Provincial Principal Association, and the Secretary General of the Provincial Principal Association are the members of the National Game Council.
The NGC apologized for the discrepancies caused by this issue, but we thank you for the comments (negative & positive) they will help improve the management and coordination of the game in the coming years.
For the future reference the NGC would like to advice and appreciate that any issue concerning the rules, management, and coordination of the game be addressed to the chairperson of NGC.
Thank you for the understanding.
