Happy National Caregivers' Month!!
Let’s do this right.
The work is HARD, the patient vulnerable, and there are no do-overs.
It is time to value our senior population and provide quality care. This starts with removing high profit from the nursing home industry, from the private duty agencies and for private families to understand this isn’t the time to be financially conservative.

CDC, CMS call for rebuilding health system after patient safety measures drop As patient safety declines amid the pandemic, the U.S. must rebuild a healthcare delivery system in which safety is embedded in every step of a process, with clear metrics that are aggregated, assessed and acted on, according to an analysis published Feb. 12 by The New England Journal of Medicine.
People Over 80 Are Still Taking Care of Their Parents and Partners The increasing number of older caregivers is adding a layer of fragility to the nation’s already strained family care-giving system, long the backbone of long-term care.
A most dear client of mine beginning in April 2020 for both Care Management services & provision of 24/7 dedicated caregivers (who had the most fun as part of this gentleman's life to support him to remain in his home). He loved watching Andy Griffith & Gunsmoke ALL day long, while also trying to trick caregivers by sticking out his leg from his recliner to pretend to trip you or to pop out his arm to act as if to grab you as you were hustling by to refill his water & he would just laugh, laugh! I have never met a more authentically kind person. A man from the RURAL mountains, from a large family, who had a modest life, and just slowly amassed financial resources over the decades.
** PLEASE DO HOMEWORK when seeking in home care providers.
Anyone can get a LLC & call themselves a home care provider, there is NO gov.'t oversight for these "companies"*** ...there is no more vulnerable chapter in one's life as when one is aging & dependent upon care providers in their home.
It is possible & rewarding when the caregiver becomes truly like family and happens oh, so often ❤️...but, when the vetting falls short, the risk of unimaginable negative impact is real.

"....the current system, requiring home health aides to go through a training program and get certified in order to get a job that doesn’t even pay “survival” wages, will just “magnify the inequities that already exist.”
‘We’re aides, not maids.’ How one high-demand job shows education system’s failings Key to enabling older adults to remain at home is expanding the number of home health aides, but attracting aides is challenging; it’s exhausting work, with low pay, often no benefits, little respect and is overwhelmingly done by women of color and a dwindling number of immigrants.
