MJ intentionally made Thriller to crossover because he wanted to be the biggest pop artist in history and he was VERY disappointed with the commercial performance of OFF THE WALL. He thought OTW was a smash album and only won 1 award.

Hence….Thriller was born!

Thriller was already the biggest selling album in history after 3 hit singles. The label was ready to move on to the next album. MJ wasn’t satisfied with that. He felt the album had ALL singles.

The label did NOT want him to make Thriller video and did NOT pay for it! The price tag for Thriller was 1.2 million. MJ’s ppl struck a deal with MTV to have THEM air The Making of Thriller exclusively upon release…..as long as they agreed to pay for it. 😜

That dvd doc also sold 6m copies! We owned 1.
When I tell yall I watched that s*t EV ERR REE DAY! Maaaaannnn listen. Yall have NO idea.
