Rest
Go to the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19. In verses 5-6 we read,
Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat.” Then he looked, and there by his head was a cake baked on coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again.
Notice that in the midst of his crisis, Elijah rested and ate. He took care of his body.
Some of the crises you experience come because you are sleep deprived and you don’t eat right. And you know what? Your body, your soul, and your spirit are all tied together. What you do to one affects the other two. It affects the whole.
We are intricately woven together. And the wisest thing you can do when you get into a crisis is just give your body a rest, because it affects every other part of your life.
When you are exhausted and physically weak, it is easy for everything to be blown out of proportion. When you are tired, it can look like your whole world is falling apart when it really is not. It is like Mark Twain said, “I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.”
You and I do need to rest. If you are in the midst of a storm today, make sure not to neglect the rest you need.
Thankyou Jesus for rest

Jer. 17:7
How-to Trust and Be Blessed
Proverbs 3:5, 6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, / And lean not on your own understanding; / In all your ways acknowledge Him, / And He shall direct your paths” (NKJV). Sometimes the way this verse is interpreted seems to take us out of the equation. This “acknowledgement of the Lord” could literally be translated as “know Him.” If you know someone, you are more likely to do what they ask of you; and because you know them, you know what they say is true. God has promised in Jeremiah 17:7, 8 to bless those who trust Him.
God expects us to give as much as we would hope to be given.
My wife constantly gets information from Fidelity Investments about the money that she had placed in her retirement fund. It is usually a huge booklet of legal jargon that can be difficult to understand. Part of understanding retirement is also setting up a trust. Fidelity defines a “trust” as “a fiduciary arrangement that allows a third party, or trustee, to hold assets on behalf of a beneficiary or beneficiaries.”
By giving to God, you are making Him the trustee who can then bless the beneficiaries, who include those in gospel ministry, your church family, and you. Below is a list of steps to place your “trust” in the Lord.
Give the same as you would like to be given (Luke 6:38). God expects us to give as much as we would hope to be given. I have found that in order to do this, it is necessary to remember the feelings I get when I am given an amazing gift and have had no way to repay it. God has already displayed this by giving us eternal life through His Son, who died for us. He set an example of giving as He would like to have given to Him.
Give, expecting nothing in return (Acts 20:35). This is somewhat cliché, but effective, counsel on giving to the Lord. Here He shows us that giving will actually bless us more than receiving.
Give, understanding that God promises to bless you (1 Pet. 3:8, 9). A lot of times we expect to give, hoping that we will get a monetary blessing in return. God has promised to bless us, but it may not be as we expect. It may be with love, which is far more powerful than money.
REACT
1. Recall a time when you have given to the Lord and He has blessed you in ways you didn’t expect.
2. How much trust are you putting in God if He is not your trustee?
Opinion
Self-Management
Stewardship is related to managing many aspects of our lives, such as how we make use of our belongings, how we carry ourselves, what we say, and how we think. Stewardship is related to our management of God’s possessions for His glory, which include us. Aren’t we God’s possessions? How are we managing our attitudes toward others? How do we treat others? Our attitudes reveal our “Christian steward’s brand” because how we treat others should reflect Christ’s love and the kind of relationship we have with Him.
Stewardship is related to our management of God’s possessions for His glory, which include us.
Over the years, I have marveled at the treatment of people who come into our church, members and visitors alike. All who enter into God’s house should, at all times, experience the love of Christ; but for some reason, some members of our church feel the need to point out, gossip about, and turn their noses up at the flaws of everyone else. Some gather into cliques—leaving others feeling unwelcomed, unloved, and out of place—which in tur n chases potential souls for Christ away. The church is a place where sin-sick souls should always feel welcomed and able to come and lay their problems and issues at the feet of Jesus, without criticism from others.
We are supposed to show love to people who feel they have no hope and teach them that their hope is in God. We are to show them how to live by example. If people cannot feel comfortable coming to a place where “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23, NIV), where else can they go? If we all come humbly to the throne of God, making it our business to reach out in love to our brothers and sisters in Christ, embracing and encouraging each other, we will be better stewards over ourselves and how we deal with others. This will help create an atmosphere in which members and visitors alike will feel comfortable attending. Since Christ is the only one through whom we can be saved, judging should have no place in God’s house. If we were better stewards over ourselves, people would see Christ living in us daily.
REACT
1. Why is it important that we are careful to show love and understanding to those who come into our church?
2. What is a Christian steward’s brand?

Praise in Motion
God’s Generosity in Tithe and Offerings (Mal. 3:10)
Most of us, when we hear the word stewardship, think money first. Our minds go straight to tithe and offerings. We figure out how much is required of us to return, as well as how much we can “cheerfully” sacrifice, because after all, “God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor. 9:7, NKJV). All that you have and all that you are has been freely, lovingly, and even cheerfully given to you—things above what you can ask for or even think of (see Eph. 3:20). Therefore, the small amount of 10 percent should never be an issue, remembering the abundant generosity of the Source, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords. In fact, that’s peanuts compared to what God has in store for you. In God’s Word, He challenges us when He says, “Prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it” (Mal. 3:10). Scripture tells us that the tithe is “holy to the Lord” and symbolizes His ownership of everything (Lev. 27:30, 32, NKJV). Yet, He freely gives to us, requires just a little bit back, and then pours out even more. That’s a good deal!
The small amount of 10 percent should never be an issue, remembering the abundant generosity of the Source, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords.
Steward and Stewardship (1 Cor. 6:19, 20)
Stewardship is the conducting, supervising, or managing of something. God, the Creator of all things, has given us all resources, and thus the privilege of being stewards in this world. There are several types of resources with which He has entrusted us. One is our bodies. “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Cor. 6:19, 20). How seriously do we take that? Do we heed His instructions on what to put into our bodies and minds so that we can look our best, feel our best, and do our best, allowing our example to honor God?
A Cheerful Giver (2 Cor. 9:7)
God has also given us gifts and talents over which we are to be stewards. He knows us so well that He will give us talents that will satisfy and fulfill our souls and make us happy to share. We are responsible for cultivating and using them liberally to benefit His work. Teachers, caregivers, those who love to cook and bake, doctors, musicians, and even those who can share a smile to brighten up someone’s day can use these gifts to advance His kingdom. God is so thorough in His giving that we can be “cheerful givers” of our unique gifts to others.
Every Good and Perfect Gift (James 1: 17)
God has ordained us since the beginning of time to care for the animal kingdom, as well as the earth. He said, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” (Gen. 1:28). He gives us the power to accomplish this but wants us to remember that it is He who provides it. “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from down from the Father of lights” (James 1:17). Yes, it is our job to do the best we can to help preserve the earth in different ways, including recycling and picking up litter. You don’t have to be an animal lover to care for one in need. God will reveal to you active ways to share. Do it! Feed and clothe those in need. Use the means God gives you to help someone else, and you will surely find that you can’t beat God’s giving. Get up! “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over” (Luke 6:38)!
Time (Mark 13:33)
How much time do we waste—playing video games, watching television, thumbing through social media, withering away on things that don’t matter? Did you know that you will be held accountable for the time you’ve squandered? Make no mistake about it, Satan knows and has in place every distraction he can conjure up to trip you up, throwing a monkey wrench into your progression. “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Phil. 4:8).
God gives us opportunities every day to be about His business (see Luke 2:49). From cleaning your home to giving Bible studies, there are ways especially suited for you to glorify your heavenly Father. Looked upon correctly—without grimacing or grudging but with a humble, willing, and cheerful spirit—the task God assigns us He will equip us to do. When we trust and obey Him, we can trust that He “that hath begun a good work in [us] will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:6). Then, every action mentioned here is divinely viewed as holy praise in motion, just like the glorious flutter of angels’ wings, just like the beauty of flowers is seen, just like the birds sing their melodies, just like the splendor of a mighty waterfall’s ring. All of God’s creation declares His Majesty by praise to our King
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE GOD HE IS GOOD!!!
Patricia had been a faithful steward of her gifts of time, treasury, temple, and talents. She had even committed to more than her tithes and offerings. Now, it was time to return to Andrews University to continue working on her master’s degree in business. The problem was that she did not have enough money to register; but she believed God would provide the needed funds.
“How much do you need?”
As the deadline to register drew near, funds were still short and there was no indication as to what the source would be. When her mother asked, “How are you going to return to school with no money?” Patricia confidently responded, “God is going to provide the money.”
Patricia continued to pray for God to provide the money. She had a calm, confident trust that He really would provide the funds, from whatever source He chose. Patricia remembered how Dr. E. E. Rogers had amazingly brought our text, John 15:7, home to the minds of the students at one of Oakwood University’s chapel sessions. He said that in the original language, God is challenging us, declaring that “if you abide in me and my word abide in you, I dare you to ask anything of me and see if I won’t do it!” Patricia never forgot it.
One day she got a call she would never forget. It was Sister Boyd, a member of her church. She was an intimidating woman, in that she rarely smiled and was always serious. She reminded Patricia of Sister White in appearance and the way she wore her hair. Nevertheless, she was faithful to God and obedient to His leading.
The call went like this. “Hello, this is Sister Boyd. God told me you needed money for school. How much do you need?” Patricia, in disbelief, and fearing she would ask for too much, gave a number that was less than what she needed. Sister Boyd responded with “It will be in the mail tomorrow. Good-bye.” Sister Boyd sent well over $1,000! Although Patricia wavered, God blessed her for her faith in Him and His Word and being a faithful steward.
Patricia never would have imagined her answer to prayer coming from Sister Boyd, of all people. However, God’s blessings often come from unlikely sources and from those you would never imagine could even have the means or the gifts to be a blessing to you. Obviously, Sister Boyd had been a faithful steward of God’s money. Now He used her faithfulness to bless another.
Never underestimate God! When you have a faithful and obedient relationship with Him and are determined to be a good steward in the use of all the gifts He has given you, you can ask Him anything and He will do it.

Be the Example You Want Others to Follow (Deut. 4:5–9)
Quite possibly the greatest influence we can have on our community is our example. Most people know that actions speak louder than words, and most people would rather watch a sermon than hear one. God has given us great truth. He has entrusted us to share the good news of His salvation with others. And He depends upon us to show by our own lives how others also can be saved. Let us, through the help of the Holy Spirit, be an example to our communities and seek to lead others to Christ by our consistency and accountability.
If the people in your town see that your church actually serves the community, they will be much more willing to follow. You will have much higher credibility, and they in turn will be much more willing to accept the truth. The world is watching the church. Will they see Jesus or not?
REACT
If your church were to close down, would your community miss it?
Is your church one that actively serves its community, or is it just an attractive example of church architecture?
If strangers entered your church this Sabbath, what would they find? Would they be warmly greeted and befriended? Or would they be ignored?
Something to think about
Are you willing to accept Jesus as your personal Savior? Or are you uncertain about your feelings regarding His salvation?
Are you willing to let the Bible’s prophecies guide your salvation journey? If not, why not?
When you receive guidance from the Bible, do you take it seriously, or do you ignore it? How would you explain your answer to another person?
