Cuba Fire Department personnel were honored to help our brothers to the south at Havana Rural Fire Department. Firefighters from Cuba, Buckheart and Copperas Creek provided call coverage so that Havana Rural FD personnel could attend funeral services for retired fire chief Charles W. "Bill" Watts. Chief Watts served the fire service for 60 years and was chief of Havana City and Havana Rural Fire Departments being named Chief Emeritus of Havana Rural in 2009.

Firefighters from several Mason County Fire Departments attended the services and personnel from Cuba, Buckheart and Copperas Creek were able to participate in the ceremonies in addition to being prepared to handle calls that may occur during services.

Another great morning of training!

Cuba Fire Department is fortunate to have an abandoned house to train in. Personnel spent some time brushing up on use of tools, search tactics, self-contained breathing apparatus and apparatus deployment. We'll be back several times to continue to build and practice necessary firefighting skills. While we don't want to name them on social media, Cuba Fire is greatly appreciative to the property owners for their allowing us such a great training opportunity.

It's that time of year where yards and fence rows need burned off. We ask that people please use caution while burning such things. We understand once in a while something might get away and we will certainly assist if that becomes the case.

There is no burn ban currently and it is asked that common sense be used while burning ground cover areas. Though it is rare to have any trouble criminally one can be held liable in civil court if a fire moves from "controlled" to "not controlled."
