Until recently, this Caroline County grist mill rivaled Wye Mill as the oldest continually operated grist mill in Maryland. Located just a half mile from the wharf at "Sloop Landing", it was perhaps better positioned to rush flour and corn meal to feed Washington’s army during the Revolution. And like Wye Mill, it's still standing. What mill was this? Find out here: https://tinyurl.com/old-mill-quiz
We kept looking for the ruins of the mill dam at Wiltshire Manor, the home place of Charles Dickinson. Using Lidar/radar imagery from aircraft, we think we found the ruins in the creek nearby. What do you think? https://carolinehistory.org/dickinsons-mill/

Hello, Federalsburg! Will you get to the Eastern Shore Threshermen Show this weekend? There were a dozen or more grist mills and sawmills that operated in your town from the 1700s to the 1940s. Before steam, they were driven by water falling from streams on the high east bank of the Marshyhope. Our Caroline Digital History Project discovered the location of the forgotten Davis Sawmill here:
