AMSI UCD are delighted to announce the return of our annual Case Competition, this year in a virtual format! The AMSI Case Competition is a unique opportunity for clinical year students to present an interesting case that they have encountered during their clinical rotations. The competition will be held over Zoom on Wednesday 24th of February, 2021 at 6pm.

Students selected to compete will have 5 minutes to present, followed by 2 minutes of questions from our esteemed panel of judges. A general guideline for the presentation would be to include patient history, exam, differentials, investigations, management, and any interesting aspects of this case. However, these guidelines are flexible and if the student has a unique approach to presenting their case it is more than welcome. It is at the student's discretion if they wish to use visual or audio aids to augment their presentation. The winner will be awarded with a Certificate of Achievement and go on to represent UCD at the AMSI National Case Competition in March.

To apply, please complete the follow application form; https://forms.gle/rz63ARj4cTTfdkJd7. Submissions close at midnight, Sunday the 14th of February.

We would encourage you to contact consultants or NCHDs to discuss possible cases for presentations. Please contact us ([email protected]) if you have any further questions.

Our Med Minds is a week that aims to create awareness amongst the medical community and the general public about issues facing medical student's mental health and wellbeing.

One in four medical students globally experience depression during the course of medical school and one in nine experience suicidal thoughts. This rate is incredibly high and Our Med Minds hopes to be able to change that.

The main purpose of this week is to start a conversation around stressors facing medical students and to reduce the stigma attached to medical students discussing their mental health.

So to kickstart this (virtual) week, we are asking YOU to tell us what you do to contribute to your positive mental health by filling out the form attached. By the end of the week, we'll compile these answers and post them on our social media as a resource list for anyone who may be struggling.
