SAY A LITTLE PRAYER FOR MEš
Iām having surgery tomorrow, so wish me luck.
Iām having three discs replaced in my neck, itās called ACDR (Anterior Cervical Discectomy Replacement Surgery). My lower back is being done several months later. All those years of hunching over the wax bed. š
Once I feel up to it, Iāll check in to see how youāre all doing and if youāve made any positive changes to your business. Iām rooting for you all.
Love always,

TIP OF THE DAY FOR A STRESS FREE LIFE
I did this only recently but I should have done it years ago, and I encourage you to do the same.
Think about the people who you instinctively know donāt want the best for you and your business. It could be another business, a competitor, a nosy neighbour, a āfriendā, whoeverā¦ and BLOCK them! Theyāre checking your page more than they check their own.
Yes, you may be scared that theyāll confront you, but let them! Honesty IS NOT always the best policy, so if they do confront you, just act silly and say you donāt know what theyāre talking about and youāve been having trouble with your socials. š
Get those effers off your radar! They hate you because they aināt you!
Be More Kayleigh!
As this was posted as a comment and not sent privately, I had to share Kayleighās success.
Let us know if any of you have made any changes since listening to my FREE mini course. Itās been downloaded hundreds of times since the weekend, so Iām rooting for you all.
It doesnāt have to be anything big! It could be that youāre reducing your hours to earn the same money.

Mum, you started off the audio on the free course by sayingā¦ āIām here to inspire and motivate you, and you ended up saying āIf youāre not good at what you do, give it up!ā.

Hello! Please check out my FREE mini course at www.kimlawless.com
There's an audio of me rambling (as I like to do) and the rest of the course you can read.
Hope you get even one idea from it. Let me know what you think.

Ps. You donāt have to have trained with me or buy my wax to enrol, thereās no hidden agenda here. Come one, come all!
Well done Emily. Thanks for choosing my training. xx
Trained Kim Lawless 'The Wax Queen'
In hot and warm waxing techniques. Iāve been waxed using Kimās technique and can say it is far superior to other methods, less pain and irritation and no left over hairs.
I canāt wait to get started on your unwanted hair š
IāVE NOT FORGOTTEN YOU!
I said Iād put some ideas together for you all on how to get more money coming in and Iām working on it.
These will be what I consider to be realistic ideas that wonāt involve you spending money on advertising or doing a business plan.
All youāll need is bravery, because all change needs that.
Trust me, itāll all be fine.

IāVE BEEN TOSSING AND TURNING ALL NIGHT!
Weāre a lovely little group, no arguments or bitching, just lovely people trying to make a living and afford a holiday. ā¤ļø
There are those of you who regularly comment and those that just read and never comment and I appreciate you all equally. We need that balance.
However, I sometimes dread posting for fear of the occasional person (usually unknown to me) coming out of the woodwork and trying to preach to me. If my style of waxing and business isnāt for you, no offence taken if you unfollow my page.
Also, (while Iām on one) itās extremely bad manners to mention other wax brands on my page. Can you imagine other brands being happy if you mentioned me on their page! How would you like it if someone went onto your socials and recommended another salon? Use yer noggins! š§
Hereās the thing! Mama loves confrontation and I bite back, so itās frustrating for me to remain professional. š„. Iām 65 and Iāve got two big surgeries coming up and I donāt need the aggro. On the positive side though, Iāll have more time on my hands than ever to come on here and help you lovely lot, so I aināt going nowhere. ā°ļø
As promised, Iāll be back next week with some suggestions on how to improve your business in this current climate, but, Iāve never done a business plan or worked out footfall in my life, and Iām not going to start now. I did very well without all that and thatās what I want for you.
Peace out āļø

Letās make 2024 a Happy NO Year
Say NO toā¦
Keeping clients who make you feel like s**t. You know, the ones that arenāt rude but you dread seeing their name in the diary. Get rid of them!
Always saying yes to liberty takers for fear of losing clients. Those clients are the same wherever they go, so let them be someone elseās problem!
Working your arse off all year just to come out with a pittance after tax. Put your prices up or get a different job. Know your worth!
Replying to clientās messages outside of work hours. Set boundaries for your own mental health and familyās sake.
Trying to do everything. If youāre working flat out for five or six days a week and canāt afford a cleaner for two hours, then the math aināt mathing. Donāt be a martyr!
Not blocking out days off and holidays for the year aheadā¦ and sticking to them.
Love always, Kim xx
I really do wish each and every one of you the best for 2024.
Thank you to all of you that support me by buying my wax and training, and for following my page.
I love and appreciate you every single day.

PSSST!
If youāre quieter than you should be for this time of yearā¦then everyone is. Itās not just you!
I have close friends in the beauty world all over the UK who are extremely well known as experts in their field and theyāre really quiet. Of course, itās not something they shout from the rooftops and I donāt blame them.
So, when you see other therapists with their reindeer ears on, sipping their Starbucks Caramel Macchiato on Instagram and ticking off their long TO DO list, wondering how theyāre going to make it to Christmas Day without collapsing from exhaustionā¦itās all make believe.
Take a walk along your local high street and see if the salons are busy. I bet theyāre not. Where I live, we are inundated with nail bars and Iām friends with the owners of our busiest one. Theyāre usually banged out and have clients queuing outside at opening time as itās walk-ins only, but they were even quiet in the summer and had to get rid of staff. They canāt work it out.
If you are one of the lucky ones and really are very busy, donāt rub other peopleās noses in it, have some compassion.
Keeping it real.

Can I ask a favour, please?
Weāve changed our wax website (as well as our training site), so please check it out.

Thanks.

Are you a left hand waxer?
I have a few left handed people in my family, so I understand the difficulties that may arise for some. I always say that itās not a hand thing, itās a brain thing.
Of course, youāll get the waxers that can use both hands (ambidextrous) which is great, but letās talk about the left handed waxers for now.
When doing intimate waxing you donāt need to walk around the bed as you do it all from the one side but you need to feel comfortable to twist your arm and get into where you need.
Right handed waxers will find it easier to stand at the left side of the bed with their wax heaters to the left of them. The clientās head will be closer to their left arm.
I noticed during my training classes that left handed waxers needed time to get a feel for which side of the bed to stand on. Once they did, they were off and running.
Iād say to the left handed students, āYou might feel more comfortable standing on the right side of the bed with the wax heaters on that side too, (so that the clientās head was closer to their right arm). Most would say that theyād be fine standing at the left side, but as soon as they started waxing, they realised that it just didnāt feel right and that they were better swapping sides.
So, if you work in a tiny room where the bed is pushed against the wall and you canāt switch sides, fret no more! Just get your client to lay with their head at the foot end of the bed instead and youāre sorted.
Also, if you use a wax heater with a wipe bar, spin the bucket around so that the wipe bar is on the left of the heater so that youāre not tying yourself in knots.

TODAY IS NATIONAL āGet Rid of Red Flag Clientsā Day.
Ok, so I just made that up, but letās make it a thing.
If you have a client that you dread seeing because you feel as though theyāre critical or watching your every move, or, they mess up your diary because they canāt be on time or are constantly changing appointments, ask yourself why you keep them. Get rid of them! Your life will be a lot calmer without them in it.
Never be afraid to let a client go, because if youāre good at what you do, theyāll be another client to take their place. Trust me!
Most (not all) red flag clients are actually really lovely, they just couldnāt organise a dog fight at Cruftās, let alone their day, and you donāt need the stress of them.
Letās call our fictitious red flag client Sue (poor old Sue gets the blame for everything).
Dilemma: Sue is 10 minutes late every time, causing you to rush and stress and youāre chasing your tail for the rest of the day. Not only that, but youāll resent Sue, as nice as she is.
Result: Youāll p**s your green flag clients off for putting their day out and youāll become known as the waxer thatās always late for their clients.
Step 1. Message Sue and say something like this.
āHi Sue! You know how much I love having you as a client, but, I know that you struggle to be on time. This is giving me grief from the clients after you, as it makes them late too and Iāve had complaints. So, going forward, please be here in the building 5mins before your appointment and not on your way.ā
Step 2. Sue totally ignores your request and you still get the text 10mins into her appointment time, saying that her kid has been sick, sheās had a flood, someone has blocked her car in, the dog has swallowed his own foot, thereās a traffic jam. Poor Sue canāt catch a break!
Step 3. You need to be brave and reply āIām sorry to hear that Sue, but itās too late for me to do your waxing now, so donāt continue on to me as I have another client in 10mins.
As much as I feel for you, this is how I make my living and Iāve lost Ā£50 by you being too late again. Iāve actually added up that Iāve lost Ā£250 from appointments youāve missed in the last year. Letās have a chat on the phone when you get a moment.ā
Sue wonāt want to lose you, so have that conversation. Be warm and friendly and say that she really must be on time like everyone else. Most importantly, donāt take it personally. Sue treats everyone like that.
If you have any particular red flag client scenarios that youād like help on how to deal with, let me know on this post (no names).

HAVE YOU LIFTED THE SKIN ON YOUR CLIENTāS BROWS?
Hold up! Before you throw yourself onto your beauty couch threatening to never wax again, hear me out. It might not be totally your fault.
One of the first questions to ask yourself is whether most of your brow clients have complained that you've lifted their skin or grazed them.
If the answer is yes, then it's your technique. You're not supporting the skin and you're pulling the wax off upwards/outwards instead of parallel to the skin.
However, the answer is usually no and that you've been waxing for years and never had complaints. So, think about it! If it's a rare occurrence, why blame yourself?
There are few reasons that skin lifting can happen.
1. You're using a strip wax that's too aggressive and sticky.
2. You've not cleansed and dried the skin. If you haven't dried the skin and it's clammy, the wax will make the skin bounce as you remove it, causing it to graze or lift. Apply a tiny bit of oil to the skin, but blot the oil off as the wax won't stick if the skin is too oily.
3. The MAIN reason your client's skin has lifted is that they're using anti ageing creams/treatments and they've forgotten to tell you, or, they may not even realise what's in their daily moisturiser.
TIP! A good way to make sure that this doesn't happen is to check with your client every few months about any changes to their skincare routine and ask them if they're using any retinol or AHA's, because they thin the skin.
Not everyone knows what ingredients are in their skin care regime, so if they are unsure, use Hot Wax which is much more gentle on the skin.
There are other factors, such as med and health conditions, but this post is to just alert you to ant ageing creams.
Kim xx
Ermā¦do you use email?
āOh yeahā¦ I can use the remote as well!ā
Nothing p**ses me off more than sales people, GP, etc, asking me that question. Iām 64 and I have neighbours in their 80ās who use iPads and the latest technology.
Get outta my way! šš Itās so rude to assume that people of a certain age donāt use technology.
Hello you lovely lot! Iāve missed you all.
Iād love to hear your honest thoughts on this. Donāt feel that you have to justify your opinion either way. A YES or NO is fine, or feel free to say why. xx
