The cataplana seafood dish originates from the Algarve region in southern Portugal and is named after the unique copper, clam-shaped pan in which it’s cooked. This method of cooking is believed to have Moorish influences dating back to the 8th century, as the design of the cataplana pan helps seal in flavors and steam the ingredients. Traditionally, it includes a mix of seafood like clams, shrimp, and fish, along with vegetables, olive oil, and spices, making it a flavorful and aromatic staple in Portuguese cuisine.
