Chief Minister Oommen Chandy laid foundation stone for the India's first Global Artist Village at Kakkananpara near Sreekandapuram in the district. Extending full support to the project, Mr Chandy said his government will see that the first phase of the ambitious project was completed within four months. He also said that there was request from the Kerala Lalithakala Academy(KLA) for an additional land of 7 acres, at present artists village have three acres of land would be consider positively. Minister for Culture K C Joseph said artists from all parts of the world could come here, stay and work at the kala gramam(art village), which was situated around 50 Km from Kannur. The proposed Art Village would provide canvass to granite, wood, metals and clay to artists, including those from abroad, for their work, he said.
