Happy Doctor's Day

*Proud moment for Nashik and great service to humanity by doctors of IMA, Nashik*:
*Dr Vaibhav Patil, Dr Prashant Deore and Dr Shrikant Upasni* from *Nashik* participated in today's *Tata Mumbai marathon*. *They gifted life to a young man post marathon by using their expert skills in emergency situation*.

They were tired, drained and recovering in the recovery area after their run where *one young man was brought on stretcher in serious condition*. He was gasping, breathing shallow and intermittently. They assessed him immediately and took emergency measures on the spot. This person was in *ventricular fibrillation, a heart emergency state* due to excessive stress on heart.

*Cardiopulmonary resuscitation* was started immediately. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure of chest compressions and mouth to mouth breaths in an effort to manually preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest.
Then they shifted him to Medical aid centre where Dr Prashant did *endotracheal intubation* , here a tube is inserted into the respiratory tract for the primary purpose of establishing and maintaining a patent airway and to ensure the adequate exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide.

*2 DC shocks* were given where a dose of electric current is passed through the *heart in urgent and life threatening condition*. patient regained NOMAL SINUS RHYTHM. *His heart started functioning normally within a few minutes beacuse of timely measures taken by the doctors*.
We doctors do it daily in our hospitals.
But to give these service in such challenging circumstances/environments without any equipments needs more skills.

This incidence has also highlighted what great service doctors give to the society. Indian Medical Association is proud of its members, Dr Vaibhav Patil, Dr Prashant Deore and Dr Shrikant Upasni for their great efforts taken as doctors to serve a person in need.
