Over the past century many successful civil rights movements have occurred in the United States from the women’s suffrage to gay rights. However, America’s largest minority group, those with disabilities, have been neglected. This is especially true with the issues of employment and financial independence. Individuals with disabilities have an unemployment rate of approximately double that of the
general population in all fifty states! was established in 2015 by a small group of individuals with disabilities and professionals, all of whom personally experienced the issues faced by Americans with disabilities on a daily basis with regards to employment. Our mission is to increase the employment of Americans with disabilities by working with employers to eliminate workplace discrimination and bias. Many studies have found that the greatest barriers for individuals with disabilities in obtaining employment are not their disabilities or even architectural, but rather social barriers. The most viable solution to remove social barriers is education and that is what we do. We educate employers and employees about how to accommodate individuals with disabilities, dispel myths about employing individuals with disabilities, and put the employer/employees in the shoes of their employees and prospective employees with disabilities. It is our strong belief that America’s largest minority group can and should have an employment rate of close to 100% rather than a un/underemployment rate of approximately 80%.
