The iOTA Programme provides a cross border programme of innovation support to potential/existing SME

The iOTA Programme will provide SMEs with a Regional Cross Border Innovation Strategy supporting businesses, micro-enterprises and individuals in the east border region to make them more innovative, more competitive and more sustainable. The programme will achieve these goals by providing two strands of support,

Strand A - Innovation Awareness Raising and Pre-Incubation Support
Strand B - Innovat

ion Awareness Raising and Support to Existing SMEs
Strand A

Within Strand A, potential entrepreneurs will participate in a structured training programme focusing on harnessing innovation and creativity and developing a business concept into a viable small business. The training programme will include:

A structured training programme pitched at the appropriate level and a programme of aftercare and support;
Training on how to harness innovation and creativity and how to access finance;
Support and preparation of an Action Plan
Access to academic facilities on a cross border basis;
Marketing advice and support in terms of market research, customer identity and channels to market;
Dedicated advisors; and
Opportunities to develop cross border links and business networks. Innovation Clinics will be rotated around the region including sessions/consultations for the individual/SME with specialist Innovation Practitioners. The purpose will be to focus on the specific needs of the SME/Individual as identified in their Innovation Action Plan. Topics to be covered may include:

Research & Development;
Product Development;
Intellectual Property Rights;
Market Research;
Exporting; and
Use of New Technologies/Internet/ Business Networking. Strand B

Strand B aims to create awareness of how ‘innovation’ relates to local businesses and assist them to explore how they can innovate to expand and grow their businesses. Bespoke Innovation Action Plans are a particular feature of this Programme. Specialist mentors will assist SMEs/Individuals to develop their ideas through an Innovation Action Plan whilst addressing the identified Innovation Challenge in each business by a blend of activities including:

Innovation Training, Workshops and Master Classes;
Innovation Mentoring;
Access to Academic Expertise;
Signposting to existing enterprise support. Innovation Workshops will be half day events covering a specific Innovation theme that may include:

New and Emerging Technologies
Exporting;
Internet Based Technologies
Innovation in respect of People Management; and
Innovation in process manufacturing
Virtual media will be used at these events, taking less experienced business owners through the process of innovation. Mentors will also be at hand assisting in developing the Innovation Action Plan for the Individual/SME.

The iOTA Programme is having a celebratory event on Thursday 14th May 2015 in The Canal Court Hotel, Newry.

Over 300 businesses throughout the East Border Region have benefitted from this INTERREG- funded Programme and the event is being held to celebrate it's success as it comes to fruition.
