Politics is a team sport. Today The Labour Party members were busy stuffing letters for Fred Thomas for Plymouth Moor View to get the message out about the Labour is offering. 🌹
The sun is shining on Plymouth Labour. Great to be out canvassing for the brilliant Fred Thomas for Plymouth Moor View. The message on the doors in Moor View is clear, it’s time for change.
It is a huge honour to have been selected as Labour's candidate for South West Devon.
I lived and worked in the South Hams and I know its communities well. Fourteen years of the Conservatives have left their mark on our corner of Devon. Farmers struggle to make ends meet, rural poverty is endemic in our communities, and you never know if an ambulance will arrive when you need it.
It's time for change, and that’s why I want to fight to improve the lives of people right across the constituency as your representative in Parliament, under a Labour government.
Only Labour can beat the Conservatives here and I can't wait to get out across South West Devon speaking to people about our hope for Britain's future.

Vote Labour on 4th July 🌹
This a really interesting way of supporting re-greening of our city centre. To quote a certain Labour politician, I bloody love bees! 🐝
New bus shelters with ‘living roofs’ for bees and other pollinating insects will soon be installed on Royal Parade as part of our citywide replacement programme and re-greening of the city centre.
The new shelters will also offer better lighting, improved seating and relocated ‘real-time’ displays for passengers.
Work to upgrade all the shelters on the westbound (Guildhall) side of Royal Parade, along with the one outside Argos on the eastbound side, will begin on Monday 3 June. Full details here: https://www.plymouth.gov.uk/news/new-bus-shelters-royal-parade

Did you know it’s Foster Care Fortnight? Plymouth City Council will be announcing its new fostering offer soon to help support our city’s looked after children.
Great news! We’re announcing a new offer for foster carers in Plymouth 👏
Recognising the incredible dedication and support foster carers provide vulnerable children and young people, the new offer includes more training, advice and practical, emotional and financial support.
This includes increased financial allowances reflecting the rising costs of living and where eligible, covering the cost of Council Tax paid by carers.
On average in the UK, a child comes into care in need of a foster family every 15 minutes. We really need more foster carers in Plymouth to help us support local children.
There are fewer barriers to becoming a foster carer than many people realise, and it doesn’t matter if:
• You are single
• You don’t have children of your own
• You’re a tenant and/or live in a flat
• You work, are unemployed or retired
• You’re living with a disability
• You have pets.

DO YOU WANT THE SPEED LIMIT AT JENNYCLIFF LOWERED? COMMENT BELOW.
Dear residents,
I know from speaking with lots of you there are serious concerns around Jennycliff Lane, Stamford Lane and Staddon Lane being National Speed Limit (NSL). I have heard first hand about speeding, anti-social behaviour, and near misses – particularly as people walk along Stamford Lane. As we all know, the NSL of 60mph is a limit and not a target. It relies on drivers’ sensible judgement to drive according to the road conditions and most people do. However, we also know that isn’t always the case.
Let’s be clear, I would like to see the speed limit on these stretches of road reduced to 30mph. There is high pedestrian traffic in the area with large sections without pedestrian footpaths. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets badly hurt. Reducing the speed limit alone won’t solve the issue of problem drivers, but it is part of the puzzle. And it sends a clear message to boy racers – you are not welcome here!
So what’s the proposal?
Moving the NSL sign from Jennycliff Lane up past Jennycliff carpark at Staddon Lane where the road becomes more of a rural road (which normally are NSL). This would change all of Jennycliff Lane, Stamford Lane, and most of Staddon Lane in that area into a 30mph zone.
I’m talking with Council officers to explore options to potentially make this change happen. Usually reported injury collision data (basically has someone been hurt in a crash) and/or recorded speeding issues are some of the triggers to review whether to change a speed limit. These don’t apply here. However, we could use apply for a ‘community severance’ justification, this is where there is support from the community to change a speed limit where reported collision or speed data doesn’t support a change.
How could we make it happen?
It would require two things: 1) support from all the ward councillors, 2) funding. Support from all the ward councillors could unlock the funding necessary to make the change happen. If there is sufficient support, we could explore applying for a Traffic Regulation Order and formal consultation process would take place (this part would take some time). Of course there are lots of moving parts but if successful, the speed limit would be able to be lowered.
I am keen to hear your views. So, comment below.
Another busy but rewarding day. More Councillor induction sessions, logging lots of case work (including a site visit to see some residents’ issues firsthand), ending with a “Have Your Say” community meeting in discussing lots of community issues.
First meeting of the week with M.A.N Culture Plymouth to discuss the importance of male allyship to and thanks to Trevi Women for recommending the connection. Now off to an intro briefing on children’s service.

Just got back from my first community meeting as a councillor. It was a packed meeting of the Radford Park Community Project at the Beckly Centre to discuss the future of the group and the park itself. A new committee was formed which will explore residents’ interesting ideas.🌲🌳🌱

It is truly a privilege to have been elected by residents of Plymstock Radford as your next Councillor. I spent the bank holiday weekend recharging after a busy but enjoyable campaign. But the hard work starts now and I won’t take your trust for granted.
Today I was very proud to sign my Declaration of Acceptance of Office. I am the first Labour Councillor for Plymstock Radford ward since 1997. But, it doesn’t matter what party you voted for or even if you didn’t vote at all. I am here to represent you. I am looking forward to working with my fellow ward Councillors to deliver for residents.
I want to pay tribute to my predecessor, Cllr Bill Wakeham, who was a true gent at the count. We had a warm conversation and he offered some sage advice. We might have different politics but we’re both united in wanting to do the best by our city and our ward.
I can be contacted by residents on: [email protected] and I have reached out to my fellow ward councillors about surgeries for face-to-face meetings in the near future.
I will work hard to make the ward an even better place to live. I look forward to seeing and speaking to residents around the ward.
Thank you!
Cllr Daniel Steel

It’s great to be speaking to residents and hearing so many of them have already cast their votes for Plymouth Labour. It’s your chance too to vote for change! 🌹
I’ve been campaigning with Maria Lawson for Plymstock Dunstone for months now. She is hard working, kind, and determined. I’m confident she’s the best person to represent Plymstock Dunstone ward’s residents!🌹
We’ve been working hard as a Plymstock Labour team to talk to as many residents as possible to understand what are the important issues to you. But only you can decide who you’d like representing you at the council. Please use your vote for Plymouth Labour.
Today is your opportunity for change. Please use your vote to support me, Daniel Steel, to be your next councillor in Plymstock Radford.
