What is it?

A new trend called "permanent" jewellery is the new kid on the block.

We all have that one piece of jewellery that we hardly ever take off. Whether you’re hesitant to take it off because of its sentimental value, have a fear of losing it, or because you’ve just worn it so long that it’s become a part of you, we totally get it.

Simply put, permanent jewellery means that you can’t take off, because rather than closing a bracelet or necklace with a traditional clasp, the two ends are welded together. The whole process is painless and only takes a few minutes.

There are pros and cons, of course.

Pros:
- turn a meaningful piece of jewellery into something permanent;
- you’ll never have to worry about misplacing it or having it fall down the drain;
- by opting for a delicate, solid gold piece, you don’t have to worry about whether or not your jewellery will make it through airport metal detectors (or turn your skin green).

Cons:
- If you need certain medical procedures, like an MRI or surgery, you’ll likely be required to remove all jewellery, which means you’d have to cut the jewellery off at the welding point.
