We are proud to introduce the newest learning module at Balarat: The Patrick Emery Planetarium!
The planetarium has been a dream years in the making and truly a labor of love! Balarat was gifted the planetarium dome that was housed in Steele Elementary for many years. Partnering with Balarat's Staff, the Council helped fund technology, equipment, furniture and professional development to help get this project off the ground.
The planetarium is named after former Balarat Director and Council President, Patrick Emery. Council Treasurer and former Balarat Teacher, Erik Hurst, has worked many hours to help make this dream a reality!
The planetarium will be paired with Balarat's memorable night hike for a full evening of science, learning and adventure!
At , we learn in any weather! Good thing our amazing students from are used to the snow! βοΈ

If you guessed the Western History Learning Module last week - you were correct! Known as the "Ranch House," students learn about three aspects of Colorado history: The Native Americans, Pioneers, and Trappers and Traders.
Students bake biscuits and explore artifacts in the homesteaders' cabin, learn about how to make fire and build a Tipi, and make dipped wax candles, create maps, and set snares in the Trappers and Traders shed.
The Balarat Council was proud to assist with building and furnishing the Ranch House to provide DPS Students with the hands on learning experience of early Colorado life!

Who We Are...
The Balarat Council is a Nonprofit that exists to support Balarat Outdoor Education; a program that provides instruction to Denver Public Schools students in environmental studies, science, Colorado history, and outdoor leadership skills.
Balarat was hit hard by the Calwood Fire, and we need your support! NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL. Balarat is a pillar of Colorado's environmental education world. Without it, thousands of Denver Public School kids each year would likely never learn first-hand about nature and our mountains. All donations are tax deductible.
