Torringford Tigers
Torringford Elementary School
We are looking forward to seeing you!!! Here are two events to know about in August. Both events are held at Torringford School:
1. "Welcome To Kindergarten" event
Tuesday, August 20 5:00pm-7:00pm
You will have a chance to meet the Kindergarten teachers, learn about a typical kindergarten day, tour the school, meet the PTO, take a practice bus ride, and drop off school supplies!
2. "Meet & Greet"
Wednesday, August 28th 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
This is an opportunity to stop by and see the classroom, meet the teacher, and drop off your school supplies. It is for grades K through grade 3. However, if kindergarten families have the opportunity to meet and greet at the "Welcome to Kindergarten" afternoon on August 20th, it is not mandatory for kindergarten families to attend both. Please make the best decision for your child and family.
Torringford Lost and Found items available to view through 6/28/2024
Torringford Families: If you believe your child has left items at the school, please stop by the main office at Torringford to check for the items between 9AM - 2PM on Monday through Friday until 6/28/24. After this point, all remaining items will be donated to charity. Just come to the main office and buzz between these hours and we will let you in to view it.
Thank you and Happy Summer!
The season of Summer Reading is upon us! Visit the Torrington Public Schools Summer Reading website for each school's summer reading challenge for a chance to win awesome prizes. Reading is so important to support lifelong positive reading habits!
Torringford's
Pollinator
Garden
The Pollinator Garden at Torringford School has lots of opportunities to spend active time outside with your family and friends. The garden was created several years ago by the Torringford community as a place to gather, walk, observe changes over time, plant, play, read, and enjoy time together.
Did you know that the start up funds came from a grant from Fit Together? Some of the Fit Together goals are to decrease the amount of screen time and increase physical activity. It is an area that is open to the community when school is not in session.
At the Pollinator Garden you can:
Go for a walk with your family. If you walk around the playground too that will increase your steps.
Bring an extra water bottle. Give yourself a drink and water some plants with the extra.
Build a fairy house with the materials you will find at the garden.
Play at the mud kitchen in the garden.
Bring a snack/lunch and a have a picnic. You will find a picnic table and a bench there or bring a blanket or folding chairs.
Do you like to draw or paint? Bring your supplies and draw some of the native plants you will find in the garden.
Visit the two Free LIttle LIbraries near the entrance to Torringford School or the Torrington Public Library, borrow a pile of favorites, and visit the garden for a quiet place to read.
Visit the school grounds to use the playground but before you go to the playground area, take a stroll through the garden.
Record your visit in the Garden Log which is a notebook you will find there in a ziplock bag. Your child can draw a sketch of their fairy house or what they observed in the garden. Record first name only. Record the date.
Volunteer to water or w**d the garden.
…..and last but not least…..paint a rock and add it to Roxy, the garden rock snake! We want to reach the playground! You will see over 180 painted rocks by members of our community throughout the garden and along the fence stretching towards the playground! (We have a few rocks in a rock pile near the garden that you are welcome to use for your painting.)
Here are ways you can help to maintain the garden.
We are always in need of help with w**ding, replenishing fairy house supplies, and watering plants. Look for the sign up link below. Do you see days and times that do not work for your schedule but you want to help? Email [email protected] and we will work out a time to come.

The Torringford community would like to congratulate two talented third graders who won 1st place (Andi) and 2nd place (Aubree) in the 2024 Yearbook Cover Contest! This year’s theme is “Our Pawsome Journey” and focuses on the progress each student has made, in their own way, to grow during their time at Torringford. Andi’s and Aubree’s creative depiction of “Our Pawsome Journey” not only captures the spirit of their school journey, but also showcases their artistic skills. Andi’s artwork will grace the cover of the ’23-’24 yearbook, which will be distributed (to those who placed pre-orders) the week of June 10th. Congratulations to these young artists for their hard work and creativity!
NOTE: Order your copy of the ’23-’24 Torringford yearbook today and have it delivered directly to your home by following the steps below:
