Been off here for a little bit but I’m back with fresh ideas and a new outlook ☺️

✨TAKING CHANCES✨

Two years ago today I said “what the hell, I guess I’ll make this a book and see what happens.”

Sure enough those 7,978 words, 30 days, 29 pages, 2 chapters, and 1 writing prompt turned into 20,000 words, 5 months, 110 pages, 11 chapters, and 1 BOOK 😌

I made an insane decision that would ultimately become the greatest decision I ever made.

Two years later…

•I’ve quit my job
•Written another book
•Am writing for a web series
•Get to play around in a realm I’ve been dreaming about since I was seven years old.

I can’t believe what has become life for me now. A “random” opportunity to do this thing called filmmaking has become the gift that keeps on giving.

•ROMANCE•

It’s not always about the flowers and sunsets. Sometimes it’s about effectively communicating your fears and desires to your partner.

Not only does this express your love for your partner, it shows your partner how to love you the way you need to be loved.

That is what Frank and Cree experience in this story.

✨“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” - Chinese Proverb✨

I can’t even being to explain how much that quote means to me after last night. I didn’t know how much a responding to a “we’re doing this 48 hour film project and need some help” would mean to me until I was overwhelmed watching it on the literal big screen in an actual movie theater.

And I can’t speak on last night without acknowledging my friends and teammates .aashl and Monique Smith for being who they are.

I also can’t go on without thanking, once again, Chris and Toby at Bright Idea Media Group for this unbelievable opportunity! It was a night I won’t soon forget. I posted the link to the film below, check it out and let me know what you think!

Oh! It’s !

After their first fight, Cree and Frank are at a crossroad. Knowing Cree as he does, Frank is hopeful that he is forgiven for the emotional mess he’s created.

“I love when you call me Franklin, you’re the only one that does.”

Back in August I was given the opportunity to apply for a film industry mentorship dedicated to introducing more women of color to tv and film. I was informed that I made the cut and am so incredibly excited to announce my mentorship with beginning on Monday!

This is a monumental step in the direction of my screenwriting dream and I cannot wait to get started! Thank you to the Starts With 8 team creating such a program!

On July 1st, I set a goal to complete the writing of my second book within thirty days. Last night, I accomplished that goal.

It gives me the greatest pleasure and honor to announce that ✨Hope In The Tempest✨ is finally complete, as promised.

To everyone that has encouraged me, given me advice, celebrated with me, hugged me, loved on me, talked me through scenes, helped me develop me conversations (some of you even from a distance ☺️) - thank you.

Guess who can officially call themselves a screenwriter?

This chick.

Got my screenplay/treatment back from my publisher yesterday and I am over the moon!

I received this from a reader this morning.

To give you a bit of back story, she had broken up with her boyfriend but they stayed on good terms. Having reached out later, he passive aggressively responded even though they had been good friends. She didn’t understand why until he followed up with her weeks later saying he had long since moved on with someone better suited for him.

Reading From God, With Love helped her discover that breaking up with him was HIS easy out and that he wasn’t looking for what she had to offer because it didn’t affirm for him that he was worthy of love.

I spoke with her a bit about it and I was glad to hear that her seeing her experience written on a page helped her understand that there was nothing wrong with her and helped her receive a little bit of closure.

This is why I write the stories that I do. To get to know that even one person has been impacted by something I was given the grace to write, is the true blessing.

*TRIBE*

What does that even mean?

For me, it’s been a long suffering desire to be surrounded by people who have a desire to achieve what others thought unattainable and to be seen for who we completely are.

I’ve been writing since I learned how to hold a pencil but this journey to and through authorship was one, until recently, I traversed alone.

Today my testimony is that of love, harmonic community, and my tribe who’ve found their own voices and have chosen to walk with me.

Who’s in your tribe? Tag them below!

I’ve been anxiously waiting for because this one line captures the essence of what love can and should be in relationships.

Although it is a work of fiction, watching Cree and Franklin navigate new romance is beautiful and expresses some very powerful messages:

💕 Black love still exists
💔Men can also feel most loved in ways only ever ascribed to women
😌 Love is patient
👩🏿‍❤️‍👨🏾 Couples therapy is a thing for u***d couples too

I cannot wait for you to catch up with these two lovebirds and as always make sure you grab a copy of From God, With Love to see where it all began…

15/06/2021

When reading your own words on the page as you write them makes you cry…

Seriously, I can’t wait for y’all to meet Franklin and get to know him better.

He’s a man in love learning to navigate a relationship he’s never experienced before. He’s also learning things about himself that he never knew and learning to love in new and albeit, nerve racking ways, thanks to Cree who challenges him and still gives him grace to grow.

Coming soon, Hope In The Tempest.

And don’t forget, you can read Credence and Franklin’s story from the beginning. Check out From God, With Love - 🔗in bio.

What’s in a name?

I thought long and hard about how and what to name my main characters - it was a very intentional process.

In From God, With Love, I named my MC after the wonderfully talented, beautifully quirky actress, Cree Summer.

She was a favorite of mine growing up, voicing some of my favorite childhood cartoon characters and starting in highly notable black sitcoms.

Having a very distinct voice established her career and so matches her distinct name. My MC Credence, intentionally nicknamed Cree, is just like her in that she is always authentically who she is and uses her voice to bring joy inducing smiles.

What’s in your name?

Just because you didn’t see someone’s healing process doesn’t mean they haven’t done the work.

Let’s normalize celebrating when someone has healed, mentally and emotionally, and moved forward with their lives instead of trying to convince them that they’re lying to themselves.
