A long-awaited personal passion project for homeowner Sawsan Al Nabolsi, owner of Reesha Interior Design, renovation plans for the entire ground floor of her villa had previously been put on hold due to the pandemic. Dated, dark, and the opposite of her contemporary, light, and minimalist-inspired vision, there was clear “room for improvement” to create a spacious family home with a luxury aesthetic that would also be a welcoming environment for gatherings with friends.

A compact, contemporary haven
Eviction notice in Dubai Hills prompted Elisa Radeva and her husband to invest in a home. They quickly made an offer on a Golf Grove district unit. Initially focused on the interior, they later sought inspiration from a neighbor's garden, leading to collaboration with Nabil from NGS Architects.

With Dubai’s reputation as a multicultural city, it comes as no surprise to open the door on this Italian-owned and designed Victory Heights villa to find a genteel nod to English country living. Homeowner Cristina, who lives here with her husband and three sons, explains: “We wanted the interiors to be warm but also to draw on influences from English country houses, which is a style I love and also complements the golf course view.” The six-month top-to-toe renovation was executed by fellow Italians Cinzia and Marco Tedeschi from award-winning boutique firm , and has transformed the villa into a cohesive, light-filled family home with its own distinctive personality.

Inspired by family travels throughout the Mediterranean and the villa’s Portuguese-influenced architecture, owner Malou Robertson wanted to bring southern European-style sophistication and warmth into her 8,500-square-foot home. With the garden’s design a priority, she was adamant from the outset that its aesthetic should seamlessly embrace the bricks-and-mortar aspect. “We wanted to create something that had personal meaning and that would also embody unity and balance, with flowing lines and pathways designed around eye-catching focal points but with smooth transitions between each area,” she explains. Tackling the project as a couple, her design criteria covered purpose and budget, with sustainability and practicality given equally important billing. A contractor and builder executed the groundwork, while Malou project-managed the design.

How this garden in The Meadows provides the perfect backdrop for ‘me time’

“My garden is a place for me to reflect,” says artist Lan Stanley her home in The Meadows. “I wanted to create as much open space as possible,” she explains, “There was a waterfall and sculpture when we moved in, but I removed those and planted more trees. The walls were a brown colour, so I painted them in this crisp white colour myself – it took ages!” she laughs, “but it was worth it in the end.”

Homeowners Wim Bonjean and G***t Van Den Auwelant share a passion for colour. This is evident upon meeting the Belgian couple, and even more so once you step inside their Falcon City of Wonders villa…

“The plants you see in the desert are hanging on to life, but when you bring them into a garden, give them a bit of water and some love they get bigger, greener and more beautiful. The same plant will look completely different in your garden than how it does in the desert. That’s because in the desert they’re surviving, whereas in your garden, they’re thriving,” says landscape architect Will Bennett, whose garden is a unique reflection of the natural landscape.
