Heading back to school can cause a lot of big feelings. Stories are a great way to address some of those feelings. Here are some books we love. Links to each book can be found in our stories and will be saved as a highlight.

A new school year brings new opportunities to advocate for your child. Be their voice, stand up for them, protect them. How can you advocate for your child this school year?

Sometimes school is hard. Sometimes classmates are cruel. Sometimes doubt and worry and fear creep in. As our children head back to school, let’s use these words to remind them of their value and worth. Let’s make sure that our words of encouragement are louder and more frequent than the discouragement they may hear. Remind them that they have always been and will always be ENOUGH.

I’m not sure who else needs this reminder this morning, but I sure did! I don’t have to be strong enough to handle everything going on in life because God is strong enough to handle it ALL. So today I’m choosing to take a deep breath, drink coffee from my favorite mug and lean into His strength. Sometimes life is hard, sometimes parenting is hard, sometimes advocating is hard and that is OK. God is not intimidated by hard- he is ready to help us face and navigate our hard things.

GRWM- Appointment Day - it’s appointment day at our house, so I’m highlighting some essentials that I am packing to take with us: Essentials Notebook with my list of current questions and concerns, a snack box, a change of clothes, some books for her and a kindle for me, a medicine box with some essentials, an umbrella for a rainy travel day, lip gloss, portable chargers, and a few screen free activities to keep her entertained. In honor of graduation week, Engage Family Services is excited to announce a new product now available. We are releasing a Personal Medical Information worksheet available as a digital download. This is a great tool for preparing teens and young adults to visit the doctor’s office on their own. By completing this worksheet with your college student/young adult, you will be equipping them with the ability to fill out the paperwork at the doctor’s office independently. This file can be downloaded and printed as a paper copy. It can also be saved as a PDF file on their phone, and information can be typed and edited as needed to be kept up to date. Today is Rare Disease Day 2024. Engage Family Services was founded as a result of the impact of a rare disease on our family. Today we celebrate the brave and strong families who advocate for their children with rare diseases. We also thank the ones who research and treat these diseases.

If your child has an Education Freedom Account (EFA) for the 2023-2024 school year, funds have been added to Class Wallet and it is time to pay quarter 3 tuition!

Tomorrow is appointment day for us, so that means today is prep day. For us, appointment days include several hours of travel to and from appointments plus time in waiting rooms and treatment rooms. Here are a few of our appointment day essentials- small toys and activities that fit easily in my purse and my Essentials Notebook. The toys I packed for this trip are a Hot Dots book, a puzzle, scratch and scribble sheets, connect the dots and a coloring notebook. I will also bring an iPad and headphones with a show or movie downloaded. Finally, I updated my questions list and made sure my Essentials Notebook was up to date. This prep work will help appointment day run more smoothly, and we will be prepared for a great day!

One thing I learned early in my parenting of a child with special needs was to celebrate the little victories along the way. It helps you stay focused on the positive, it encourages your child, and it creates special memories. What win can you choose to celebrate this week?

When it comes to advocating for your child, it’s important to focus on progress, not perfection. Is there an email you need to send, a phone call you need to make or an appointment you need to schedule? Now is a great time to do the next thing.
