I’m in.
Today, the ECQ Ipswich Returning Officer accepted my nomination for election and the opportunity to spend four years serving you, listening to you, representing you and relentlessly fighting to:
- Stop the stench
- Prioritise upgrades to Ripley Road and School Road
- Build adequate parking at Redbank Plains SHS
- Stop the rehab centre in Wildey Street
- Progress a train line to Deebing Heights
- Fight for bigger recycling bins
- Provide dump vouchers and rebates for e-waste recovery.
- Refusing to be silent until we have progress on properly upgrading the Amberley interchange and the Cunningham Ripley Road interchange.
Let’s get it done.
Talking fire ants spread by compost operators.
At Town Square Redbank Plains this morning getting people to sign the petition for a police beat here.
Council has increased its mowing resources to take full advantage of the recent sunshine following a very wet and humid start to 2024.
Mowing crews are working longer hours and on weekends and additional staff have been brought in to get the city’s mowing schedule back on track.
More than 220 millimetres of rain fell across Ipswich in January, smashing the monthly rainfall average of around 78 millimetres.
The prolonged period of heat and high humidity has provided perfect growing conditions for grass and weeds. While attempting to mow wet and soggy areas is potentially hazardous for crew and their equipment, extremely hot and humid conditions when the sun is out is also challenging for crews to manage.
Council does understand concern this has caused our community and is grateful for your patience while we work to continue to catch up on the backlog.

A picture paints a thousand words. Someone is out stealing and tearing down posters, en masse. But it is very telling whose poster has been interfered with, and whose has been left standing perfectly fine.
“Every juvenile granted bail in the courts should be given ankle bracelets and they should also face deportation if convicted of serious crimes,” Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers says.
Mr Leavers has also called for an expansion for police wanding operations to allow officers to use metal detectors on people in all public places, for the media to be allowed into children’s courts matters.
It follows revelations that a 16-year-old charged with murdering Ipswich grandmother Vyleen White was on bail at the time after being charged with three armed robbery offences last year.
‘Ankle bracelets, deportation’: Police union boss’ radical youth crime overhaul Every juvenile granted bail in the courts should be given ankle bracelets and they should also face deportation if convicted of serious crimes, Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers says.
UPDATE 5 (sorry, I had to delete the link post as the QPS links have attracted scammers.) One charged with murder. The other four have only been charged with ‘unlawful use of motor vehicle.’ It is unacceptable that they have only been charged with ‘unlawful use of a motor vehicle.’ They should be charged with accessory to murder.
It was great to drop in for opening day of the new Willowbank Cafe! (Oneills Road, Willowbank.) Congratulations to owners Carl and Antoinette on your new business, and thank you for being here for our community.
I have posted here the menu. Drop in and support your local.

Our thoughts go out to the family of the woman stabbed to death in the basement car park of Town Square last night. It is a horrific and confronting incident for our community.
More words won’t help, so I won’t write much more, other than to say our thoughts are with the family.
I also join calls being made by many today for Town Square owners to improve security. It is your responsibility. You profit from these leases. It is your responsibility to provide security.
Grandmother stabbed to death in shopping centre car park An off-duty doctor rushed to help when he heard a young girl screaming.
Talking a library and community centre for the Ripley Valley, the fastest growing community in all of Queensland.
Great to be here again in Willowbank today for our Willowbank mobile office. Great getting to chat with local residents, including Willowbank local, Trevor, who spoke about the overgrown grass needing council attention, and, of course, the interchange.
I think some people have seen my video?
The Division 1 Q&A in Ipswich Tribune was knocked off the front page by Jim Madden’s announcement. However, you can read it at the below link. The question was “How will you manage the road network through the growing Ripley corridor?” You can read my response. While I do not wish to ‘negative campaign’ on others’ responses, I wish to respond to one’s policy announcement of calling for a busway. This effectively ditches the train line, as it would need to use that corridor, and it would be a similar cost to a train line. I completely reject that idea.
We need a train line, and we need to get started on it now!

Once again today Ipswich-Rosewood Road and Haigslea-Amberley Road have been cut due to flooding, causing great inconvenience for the residents of Rosewood, Walloon and surrounds. I will advocate prioritising improved flood mitigation for these roads, so they remain open during weather events like today.
Meteorologists are predicting continued deluge over the next two days as severe thunderstorms and ex-tropical cyclone Kirrily join forces. The old One Mile Bridge is already underwater, and Ipswich-Rosewood Road is closed due to flooding.

The starting gun has been fired and campaign signs are now going up in people’s front yards.
(or, if you don’t believe in following any rules, up and down the highway? 🤔)
If you can be a helper for change and “getting it done” by having my sign in your front yard, please message me via simoningram.org (or let me know here, and I will reach out to you.)
