Certainly! Here is a list of strong "why" statements that can help you achieve a Band 7 or higher in the IELTS exam:

1. Improve career prospects: Achieving a Band 7 can open doors to better job opportunities and increase your chances of being considered for positions that require a high level of English proficiency.

2. Pursue higher education: Many universities and academic institutions require a minimum IELTS Band 7 for admission to undergraduate or postgraduate programs. Achieving this score will help you qualify for your desired course of study.

3. Emigrate or study abroad: If you have plans to immigrate to an English-speaking country or wish to study abroad, a Band 7 can fulfill the language requirement needed for visas and applications.

4. Enhance your communication skills: Scoring well in IELTS can boost your confidence in English communication, enabling you to express your thoughts and ideas more effectively in various social and professional settings.

5. Expand cultural experiences: English is a global language, and achieving a higher score in IELTS will open opportunities to connect with diverse cultures, make international friends, and broaden your horizons.

6. Increase credibility: A strong IELTS score demonstrates your language proficiency and adds credibility to your profile, making you stand out among other candidates or competitors.

7. Personal growth and self-challenge: Setting a goal to achieve a Band 7 in IELTS can push you out of your comfort zone, encouraging self-discipline, dedication, and personal growth.

Remember, these reasons can help motivate you to study and prepare effectively for the exam. Stay focused, practice regularly, and seek additional resources or support if needed. Good luck!

IELTS Task 2 Writing Samples: Band 8 to 9 – Set 2
Below you can read three IELTS Task 2 questions and response essays. These essays are written by IELTS experts and score band 8 to 9 on the IELTS. To get lots of help with your IELTS writing use the full course, bonus writing course and ‘Task 1’ and ‘Task 2’ editing services. We look forward to helping your reach your IELTS success.
WRITING TASK 2
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic
Some people believe that it is a good idea to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
INTRODUCTION
Knowledge is power. Freedom of expression and speech is a crucial part of most modern societies. Within this culture, many people believe that by sharing information freely among all humanity, the future of the world is enhanced. Although some reasons for sharing information freely include rapid development of science and benefit of humanity, I believe it should not be solicited without pay because information needs finance and security.
BODY 1
Scientific breakthroughs can be achieved faster and more when people do not need to have financial backing to acquire the necessary knowledge. There are many smart scientists who do not have the funds to acquire important information to complete their research. However, when the information is free, this is not a barrier for their progress. For instance, information on cancer can be accessed freely on the internet, and this allowed Dr. James Cornick, a poor physician in Ireland, to come up with a pill which helps cure skin cancer and benefits people around the world. Even though in this situation free knowledge is beneficial, it is not true in all cases.
BODY 2
Much information requires payment to be produce and maintain. Also, certain types of information in the wrong hands can be devastating for society. There are many professionals whose jobs are to produce research and new concepts. When they are not paid for this work, they can no longer generate science. In addition, some of this research deals with dangerous fields such as nuclear physics and pharmaceuticals. For instance, last year an act of terror occurred because some criminals were able to learn how to make explosives using free information on the internet. This clearly should not be permissible, and for this reason alone, not all information should be free to access for everyone.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, distributing information free of charge can help in certain aspects but can also be detrimental to society. Although some believe people should give as much knowledge pro bono as possible, I strongly believe the opposite. People should be careful to underestimate the value and power of knowledge.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WRITING TASK 2
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Present a written argument or case to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge of the following topic.
The key to solving environmental problems is for the present generation to sacrifice their convenient way of life for the sake of future generations.
Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience
Write at least 250 words.
INTRODUCTION
There is a dire need to save our planet for the future. Humans depend on the environment for survival as it provides our shelter, food and air. In recent times, large populations and abuse of the environment have led to serious concerns for the long-term survival of the human race. Although some believe people must sacrifice our comforts to achieve this goal, I do not agree with this. There are alternative solutions such as changes in behavior and technology which can save nature without giving up our luxuries.
BODY 1
One effective solution to helping nature is to make simple changes in people’s daily habits. There needs to be more attention paid to reducing, reusing and recycling products. For example, people can use the same glass mug for their morning coffee instead of a plastic or paper cup that they throw away each time. Also, individuals can turn off the tap when brushing or shaving. This can save millions of liters of water each year. For example, I always take my plastic water jug with me instead of buying fresh water bottles at the store. This is one of two ways to safeguard the environments without giving up creature comforts.
BODY 2
Using sustainable technology can also solve environment challenges for future generations. There are many ecofriendly technological alternatives to what society uses today which are much less damaging for nature. Some of these technologies include, solar energy, digital publishing and electric transportation. For instance, last year I sold my gas-powered car and converted to electric, so that I decrease my carbon footprint.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, alterations in human activity and technology are viable interventions for the pressing environmental challenges of today and tomorrow. I completely disagree that making these changes demands giving up people’s convenient way of life. All people must take responsibility to invest in green technology and modify daily routines since we do not inherit the earth from our parents, but we borrow it from our children.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WRITING TASK 2
You should spend no more than 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic:
Some people argue that keeping pets is beneficial for longevity while others believe that household animals are not healthy for people to have as companions.
Discuss both sides of the argument and which side you support, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
You should write at least 250 words.
INTRODUCTION
People around the world have had pets for millennia. Millions of people either buy or adopt household animals such as dogs, cats and birds to keep them company. Some believe this is good practice to live longer lives; however, others argue that having pets at home is unhealthy. Although pets can be a health hazard because they cause disease and are dirty, the benefits of owing pets for a long happy life is more such as companionship and activity.
BODY 1
Certainly, having pets in the home can bring illness to owners and people. Unfortunately, animals do not have the same level of cleanliness as humans, so dogs and cats attract dirt into the home and often carry pathogens such as bacteria, parasites and virus. To cite an example, my niece got terribly ill with tape worms after playing with my dogs last year. Nevertheless, paying attention to keeping pets clean can greatly reduce these health hazards.
BODY 2
On the other hand, pets have some very beneficial influences on their owners such as keeping them company and active. Senior people especially, who have lost many of their friends and loved ones, keep dogs and cats to avoid being lonely. Also, their pets, specifically dogs, require them to stay fit by needing to go for regular walks each day. My grandfather lived until the ripe age of 95. For the last 15 years of his life, he owned a German shepherd, Sparky, and I truly believe that this helped much for my grandpa’s health and positive attitude.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, pets allow people to experience their social nature but can also be dangerous for health. Although I believe there is some truth to the latter, I support the former because I saw my grandpa live a long, happy life with Sparky. Having a pet at home is great, as long as we keep them clean and healthy they can do the same in turn.

Speaking Tips for Achieving a Band 9 in IELTS

So what do you need to focus on to achieve a band 9 in one of the most nerve racking sections in the IELTS exam. The speaking test can be daunting for many, and rightly so because the spotlight is suddenly on you!
In simple words you need fluency, confidence, spontaneity and coherence to score a 9 band in speaking. But this would be an oversimplification of the problem.
Below, we detail out how to make yourself comfortable with the test, and dig deeper into the exam format and the examiner’s expectation. If you can use the wisdom here, achieving the dream of a band 9 is not far-fetched.
What is the perfect answer?
To begin answering a question, you must consider the following points:
1. Be relevant: When answering a question, take a few seconds to align your thoughts completely. If a question is about which sport you like, it is very easy to end up talking about your favourite sports person instead.
2. Stick to the facts, never give memorized answers: When answering a question, do not try to impress the examiner by giving prepared information. Remember, you don't get marks for just any information, not on how interesting your life is. For example, the question could be – ‘Does your family have a dog? The answer to this is either a – ‘Yes, we have a dog and we call it Buddy’ or ‘No, we never had a dog, no one is really fond of pets in my family’. This is a perfectly good answer.
3. Single words don’t cut it: Sometimes you may be asked a question to which the answer could be a single word answer. In such cases, you may use the question as a reference to complete or extend the answer. For example: ‘Do all your family members live together?’ Answer with ‘No/yes, all my family members do/do not live together’ instead of just a ‘No’.
Section Exploration:
Section 1 - Stick to fast, give an honest answer, do not give one word answers!
This section is easy and is more like a chat with the examiner who will ask you basic question concerning you and your life. Treat this section like a conversation and try to be simple in answering direct questions as mentioned above.
Section 2 - Use the one minute to make notes, speak at length, do NOT repeat!
Section 2 is cue card based and you are judged for speaking at length. You must speak an average of at least two minutes. As part of the cue card, you are asked specific questions related to current issues, experiences or asked to describe scenarios in detail.
How to approach cue card questions?
The trick here is break down the main questions of the cue card into several little questions and keyword. For example, if you are asked about your favourite vacation, the cue card may look like:
Can you talk about your favorite vacation, you must say:
1. Where did you take this vacation?
2. Who was with you?
3. Why is it your favorite vacation?
To be able to speak for 2 minutes or more on this cue card, you should break it down further like this:
Where did you take this vacation?
Where did I go?
What type of holiday? beach, hill-station, trekking, pilgrimage
When did I go?
Who all went with me? - friends? family? tour?
What was so interesting about this vacation and:
Why is it your favorite vacation?
What did we all do?
How was the weather?
Was the place beautiful? special? why?
Hotel stays - were they special?
How did we have fun?
Any special experiences?
When you get a minute to prepare your answer, breaking the question down and noting the keywords give you enough “material” to develop a rich and long answer. You need to refer to these notes.
Section 3 - Give an opinion, support it with an argument:
Consider this section as a continuation of the previous section because most likely you are asked questions that are a deeper exploration of the second section.
For example, if the previous section is about your favourite advertisement to date, the third section maybe about your opinion regarding today’s marketing scenario.
Key to a good answer :
1. In this section you are expected to have an opinion regarding the subject matter, negative or positive.
Divide your answer in your head into two parts:
• The opinion
• The reason or argument supporting the opinion
For example, to answer the question, “How is tourism industry in your country?”
Opinion - I think tourism is highly under-developed in my country...
Argument - Given the vast geography, cultural diversity and geographical variety, India should be the tourism capital of the world. But barring a few places like Goa and Rajasthan, not many places have great infrastructure to attract tourists.
Disclaimer - Do not try to be right, Take a stand and support it!
Do not worry about how good or bad your opinion is, you are not judged on your character or thoughts. Stay true to how you feel about the subject matter at hand.
Consider achieving a 9 in the IELTS exam only and only if you have done the following tasks:
1. Mock practice with a friend: As many times you hear this tip, it never stands to fail the test of time. So, stop procrastinating the first step is practice. Grab someone you know and begin.
2. You have explored all possible topics: Don’t be caught by surprise by the question you are asked. There are many practice tests that you can find online which will give you an idea of what kind of questions you may expect.
3. You have built vocabulary around each topic: if you are talking about a train trip you took, your vocabulary could include the following: station, bogey, platform, berth, rail tracks, ticket collector, passenger, boarding, arrival and so on.
4. You have recorded yourself: You will never know what you sound like unless you hear yourself, so go ahead whip out that phone and record your progress. The analysis that you can do here is – the number of words in a minute, the pronunciation, the tone of your voice, the fluidity and the mistakes that you make repeatedly.
5. Practiced confidence: The trick with practicing with a friend is not just to be able to hold a conversation but do it like it is a language you are well versed and fluent in. In fact, you may not be very fluent, but having confidence is always a bonus when speaking, it can trick people into believing that you are in fact comfortable using English.
IELTS speaking vocabulary for band 9
How to work on your vocabulary? Going through long word lists does no good at all to improve your ‘active vocabulary’. Active vocabulary is what you can remember and use on a frequent basis while conversing and writing. Thus, a better approach would be to keep a repository of phrases and genre specific vocabulary and refer to them every time you practice a mock speaking test.
1. Practice opening lines: Having a strong opening when answering opinion based questions can get you bonus points. Practice these:
a. I am of the opinion that
b. My experience with this matter has been
c. In my experience
d. According to my knowledge
e. I have a negative/positive take on this subject
2. Listing vocabulary: When you are trying to drive home the point it is good to break it down into sections that you can easily explain by numbering them. Try these:
a. I agree/disagree for 3 reasons or for the following reasons
b. Firstly…, secondly…, thirdly... and so on
c. My opinion is based on the following reasons
d. There are 4 reasons to support this argument
3. Concluding Vocabulary: To avoid sounding abrupt when finishing your dialogue, practice using these:
e. All in all, this is what I believe…
f. In conclusion, I would like to…
g. In the end, I think
h. I would like to end this by saying…
i. I would like to conclude by saying…
4. Genre specific words: This is one list you need to compile yourself but it is easy to find with a simple web-search. Here is a list of genres for which you can populate important words. We have done the first three for you
• Home town - Small city, City-centre, outskirts, traditionally, famous for, main occupation, known for, monument, history, Victorian architecture, British era
• Interests and hobbies - fond of, passionate about, great interest, good at, would love to,
• Travel and vacation - itinenary, lodging and boarding, serene beaches, valley, homestay, sightseeing, cuisine, local-food etc
• Social network
• Education
• Fitness
• Habits
• Gadges
• Internet
• Music
• Art
• Experiences

How to Do Completion Type of Questions in IELTS Listening?
3.3
(6 votes)
Listening Tips1760123 Mar 2018

In the IELTS listening exam, you can find completion type of questions in the last section i.e. Section 4. In these questions, you find a list of statements with blanks to be filled after listening to audio conversation. The question can consist of list of facts, bullet points etc. Here, you are listening to a monologue which means only a single person is going to speak on a topic of academic in nature. It can be a lecture or a speech given by one person. Let us find some tips that can be helpful for solving completion type of questions in IELTS Listening.

Underline Words Near the Blanks

In the completion type of questions in IELTS listening, you are given short statements which are kind of short notes on the basis of audio conversation you are going to listen to and the blanks are some important information in the audio. One of the most effective tips that work out very well for such questions is to underline words that are near the blanks because you are most likely to hear those words in the audio as well, in the same order as you find in the question. Hence, you are thus able to identify your answers from the audio easily. For example,

Boris Worm, 2005

Identified hotspots for sharks
Discovered that ocean hotspots
-Were not always found to be rich in……………….

-Were found to be having higher temperatures at the………………………

-Were found to have sufficient…………………….in the water

In the above question, you can see that the underlined words are closer to the blank and hence you should always keep these words in mind while listening to audio conversation. Apart from this, you can also highlight other words which can help you to understand the statements and focus on meaningful information out of them.

Concentrate to Avoid Skipping Audio

A very common mistake that candidates do in completion question in IELTS listening is to skip the audio. Since the speaker is saying a lot of things about the topic, you are likely to get distracted and lose concentration in between. Here, you must concentrate a lot till the audio is stopped so that you may not skip any part of the audio and hence you would be able to complete all the questions well. So, keep on practicing to improve your concentration level in order to perform well in these questions.

Keep in Mind Word Instruction

Another common silly mistake that you can avoid in completion question of IELTS listening is to always keep the word instruction in mind. Usually, the word instruction is one word but it can also be more than two words or three words. Just underline whatever instruction is written at the top of the question or you may like to encircle it so that it gets highlighted well on the question paper.

You Can Do Rough Work

You can make the habit of doing rough work by writing down words on the question paper once you hear them. This can help you stay concentrated as well. You can cross the words or replace them once you hear the next part of the audio. The habit of being ready to immediately write down whatever you hear as your answer will help you to avoid skipping any part of the audio.
