Please join us for the Feral Swine workshop, sponsored by Columbia County SWCD, McDuffie County SWCD, and Lincoln County SWCD, is coming up on November 28, 2023 at the Lincoln County UGA Extension office located at 2080 Rowland-York Dr, Lincolnton, GA 30817. There will be several expert speakers there to inform about feral swine habits and activities and the best ways to trap them. There will also be a demonstration with a hog trap. Please share this information with friends, family, co-workers, and surrounding counties. Registration is open at the link below. We will serve dinner, so come on out, enjoy dinner and learn how to trap feral swine. Registration is required. Dinner and check-in begin at 5:00 pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you to the Farm Monitor for coming out to GACD's Feral Swine Control Workshop in Marion County on May 2. We are grateful for the support of our partners at Georgia Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture , University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and Georgia Department of Natural Resources - Georgia DNR to present important information to farmers and landowners to assist them with their hog control efforts.

Yesterday this AWESOME group of Cloverbuds learned how to be Environmental Superheroes! We talked about what we can do to help take care of our environment. We also learned about rainwater and used this EnviroScape to see a visual representation. Thank you to the McDuffie County Soil and Water Conservation District for providing the EnviroScape for us to use! Our next meeting will be February 16.

The Columbia County SWCD offers assistance with feral swine trapping for landowners in the county - Feral swine have become increasingly detrimental in Georgia, causing significant damage to agricultural crops and natural resources throughout the state.
The Columbia County SWCD is has contracted with local Hog Control Custodians to eradicate feral swine within the District. If you are interested in trapping feral swine on your property, the contact information is below:

Congratulations to Sophia Harden and Anna Howard from Columbia County. Sophia & Anna were each awarded a $500 college scholarship last month at the Natural Resources Conservation Workshop held annually in Tifton, GA. The
Natural Resources Conservation Workshop (NRCW) targets rising 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students (who have not graduated from high school) from all around Georgia. The NRCW is for students with a desire to learn more about Georgia’s natural resources and the opportunities and responsibilities they provide. Columbia County SWCD Supervisors Rick Crawford and John Shearouse recently delivered books promoting soil & water conservation to every school library in Columbia County. Each library received: "The Scoop on Soil" by Natalie Rosinsky, "Turn the Wheel, Save the Planet" by Federica Fabbian, and "Under Your Feet...Soil, Sand and Everything Underground" by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Available to Georgia’s Rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. This workshop focuses on the value, protection, and of Georgia’s , , , and resources, including conservation in Georgia’s mining industry. The workshop provides students with a taste of college life while delivering valuable insight into careers through their counselors and instructors.
The workshop is June 12-17, 2022 at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

This workshop focuses on the value, protection, and conservation of Georgia’s wildlife, forestry, soil, and water resources, including conservation in Georgia’s mining industry. The workshop provides students with a taste of college life while delivering valuable insight into careers through their counselors and instructors.

Dates of NRCW June 12- 17, 2022
Camp takes place at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia.
Students scoring well on the workshop exam may be awarded a college scholarship. A limited number of scholarships are
awarded based on exam scores and specific scholarship guidelines and criteria.
Features field trips, classroom instruction, and recreational activities.

Natural Resources Conservation Workshop (NRCW) targets rising 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students (who have not graduated from high school) from all around Georgia. The NRCW is for students with a desire to learn more about Georgia’s natural resources and the opportunities and responsibilities they provide. More than $18,000 in scholarships will be awarded from this workshop.
Experts from universities and local, state, and federal natural resource agencies provide students with lectures and hands-on activities to enhance their understanding of Georgia’s vital natural resources.
This workshop gives students a unique, one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn about Georgia’s natural resources—soil, water, air, plants, minerals, and animals from experts in each field utilizing classroom and field trip activities to help interested young people learn the basic principles and the responsible use of our natural resources.
Students attending the workshop will get a taste of college life while gaining valuable insight into careers through their counselors and instructors consisting of professional personnel from the Department of Natural Resources, USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, Georgia Forestry Commission, University of Georgia Extension Service and Warnell School of Forestry, Georgia Soil & Water Conservation Commission and many private industries and organizations.

The Georgia Soil & Water Conservation Commission's Erosion Control Day features over 25 vendors with cutting edge erosion control products to use on construction sites while land disturbing activities are taking place. There will also be demos including sediment basin design and use. Speakers will cover a wide variety of topics including: NPDES, Skimmers, slopes stabilization, Polymers, Rainfall trends, Protecting wetlands and waters of the US. GSWCC, and EPD will be on hand to answer any questions.

Event will be held March 29 at UGA Center for Continuing Education in Athens.

Cost to attend is $35 and includes lunch. Vendor spots are available.
