Who are we?
Music learning and appreciation play an important part in the formation of positive self identities & inclusiveness among Indian children & youth who are potentionally at risk, and by extension, contribute to the increased productive participation in society. Most Indian children and youth under B40 experience turbulent childhood and adolescent period. Some key indicators of at risk Indian children and youth are poverty, low educational attainment, high level absenteeism, unemployment, teenage pregnancy, incarceration, involvements with drugs and other criminal activities.
It is proven that music and cultural affirmation & expression have a positive effect on the self-perception, values and life skills of an individual. There are strong connections that exists between culture and music and these can be used to engage pupils with cultural theme.
The core team in Pertubuhan Akademik Muzik India explores the link between culture and music using practical way in which music can be used to promote quality learning experiences for the children and youth which will give them an opportunity to build life skills where these skills can help individuals make informed decision communicate effectively and developing coping and self management skills that may be directed towards personal actions and actions towards others as well as actions to change the surrounding environment to make conducive to health and daily living.
One successful program that is going on under Pertubuhan Akademik India Muzik is My Music Gang. My Music Gang work to develop a community music program that teaches basic music education,coupled with human rights education and life skill.
