It isn't the panic attack that's the problem. It's what we THINK the panic attack could mean that's the problem!

Anxiety-Facing the Fear

I love this. Nothing is permanent, not the good stuff and certainly not the bad!

I found this journal entry I wrote in 2014. Thought I'd share it with you. ❤
i just read an article that said that where a person is in life is exactly where he/she wants to be. That is such bu****it. Here I am in panic with my heart flying off and on all day and I can't even sit in the yard. I don't go anywhere, I've lost friends because they got tired of hearing 'I can't go.' Full on agoraphobic. How could that possibly be true? I don't want to be housebound or anxious to even sit on my porch! That's a terrible thing to say about anxious/depressed people. So I brought it up in therapy and Margaret said something like 'well there is some merit to that'. I said "THAT IS NOT TRUE! NO ONE WOULD WANT THIS!" She said 'It holds merit because if someone doesn't like their circumstances except for terminal illness, they can work toward changing their circumstances, so what are you waiting for?" 😮 I needed to chew on that one for the whole week. So today in therapy, the first thing she said was, "Well? Do you like your life right now?" Me: 'No. I hate it!' and she said are you ready to work on changing it no matter how afraid you feel when you're anxious? I said I sure don't want to be like this forever.
So that's my goal. Where I am is NOT where I want to be, so it's time!

ANXIETY CAN CAUSE MEMORY PROBLEMS
Because individuals who suffer from anxiety often struggle to stay in the present moment, it makes them often forgetful. People who suffer from generalized anxiety disorder struggle with worry and an inability to control the worry. When we worry, it’s often about something that hasn’t happened yet, meaning we are in thinking in the future – where problems may occur. This is why people who suffer from anxiety often appear like they’re distracted, not listening, or they just don’t care.

How are you feeling lately?

07/07/2023

It's the weekend! Reminder: Recovery isn't about having zero panic attacks. Recovery is when you honestly don't care whether or not panic pops up again. It's uncomfortable, but is meaningless and not a bit dangerous. It's no more important than a yawn or a sneeze. Our fear of how panic FEELS is the problem. By facing anxiety, doing things we dread even while anxious, we teach our body that fear of that fear feeling is unnecessary. So why do we allow fear to stop us from living the way we want to? Anxiety and panic are harmless. Let them come. When we just accept the way anxiety FEELS, and use our tools like self -talk like “This always passes and not dangerous”, the hold anxiety has on our lives lets up! Go out and face fear this weekend! Let us know how you do!
