Gull Lake Middle School Football

FOR INCOMING FRESHMAN:
Parents of 8th graders looking to play Freshman Football. We will be having our official Blue Devil Signing Day this coming Wednesday at 5:30 PM in the GLHS Cafeteria. I need Varisty players to come get their Jerseys and be willing to take pictures with and talk/encourage our incoming Freshman. I need you guys there at 5-6PM. Spread the word! 🔱

There will be no lifting session tonight as there was no school today. Will be back at it on Thursday evening if the weather holds out on us.

With school being canceled today due to weather, there will be no lifting session tonight. Hope to see everyone Thursday evening!

Middle School football players, we are beginning a more concentrated effort to get our players into the weight room now that the holiday season has concluded. Your players have several options. First they are able to lift directly after school, by simply walking over to the high school and partaking in the lift alongside of the high schoolers. Several of our players are already participating in this activity.
We are also going to add Tues and Thurs at 6pm. This will be supervised by at least one coach from the high school or middle school program. This lift is geared towards preparing our players for high school fundamental lifts while keeping the weights lighter and focusing on strengthening their core.
After a new high school coach is hired we will continue to increase nights this is available under their direction. Please reply with any questions or concerns.

Congrats to our third and fourth grade football team that played in the pumpkin bowl at Vicksburg this past weekend. They picked up a victory to end the season.

Middle school football families, reminder that this week on Wednesday, we have our end of the season banquet. Please watch your emails for more details.

Coaches are also working on a off-season lifting schedule to start next week. More details to come.

We also encourage the players to participate other sports offered. Basketball season is just starting, look for information soon on middle school wrestling which starts after basketball is finished.

Eighth grade parents, as the boys load the bus tonight they will have some bottled water, chips, and sandwiches to tide them over on the drive to Hanover Horton. Thank you to the parents who organized this! Go Blue Devils!

This week we will see both squads compete in their final opportunities of the season. The 7th grade is headed to PC and our 8th grade is headed to Hanover Horton.

The 7th-grade team will have transportation to the game but will need a ride home from the event. The bus departs GLMS at 2:45 pm. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm. Please make sure students have a change of clothes after the game because coaches will be collecting gear directly following the game.

The 8th-grade team will travel to compete against Hanover Horton Middle School. (This is a game we found to fill the vacated spot in our schedule from Battle Creek Central combining their two middle schools.) The bus departs from GLMS at 4:15 pm and the game is scheduled to start at 6:30 pm. Athletes are asked to ride the bus home from the game as we will collect gear in the locker room when we return to the school. I realize this will make for a late night.

Information regarding an end-of-season banquet will be sent after Wednesday.

I'd like to thank each household for their cooperation in their dealings with GLMS and its coaching staff. I realize things aren't always perfect. We always want what's best for our children. I hope that they have grown from the season both as football players but also as young men. Sports offers plenty of challenging opportunities to learn to be better people. Thank you for allowing us to work with your children.

The eighth grade team got into the win column this week in a 22-6 win against Maple Street. The team showed determination as the scored 1st and continued to press defensively all game. We will finish our season next week Hanover-Horton (Jackson area) next Wednesday.

Practice tomorrow will begin with video in Coach Cunningham’s classroom at 3pm. We will lift and get some conditioning in. Please change and wear shorts/shirts to video with tennis shoes for weight room work

Thank you to those who volunteered their time to help our home games go smoothly. We don't have another home game, so your volunteer opportunities for this season are fulfilled.

This week, our 8th graders travel to Maple Street Middle School (922 West Maple Street, Kzoo 49008). Our departure time is 2:45 with a game time of 4:00 pm. The bus will transport players back to GLMS.
Our 7th graders travel to Harper Creek with a departure time of 4:45 and a game time of 6:45 pm. The bus will transport back to GLMS.

Next week, our 7th graders finish their season with Portage Central and our 8th graders finish their season with Hanover Horton. 7th graders will have transportation to the game but will need a ride home. 8th graders have transportation to and from Hanover Horton.

We apologize for the late notice, but the seventh and eighth grade football teams will be doing pictures today during practice. The players were notified online last night. If your player has left their game jersey at home , it would be extremely helpful. If arrangements could be made to get it dropped off after school, before practice starts again we apologize for the late notice.

Our 7th grade team, had a great rebound after last weeks loss. Going into our opponents home field and winning 24-6 over Battle Creeek Lakeview. The boys played a great game,and had a team first mentality all game. This was a great step in the right direction for team as we prepare for next weeks game!

Middle School Family and Friends:

7th and 8th grade parents and families. We are in need of help at our home games! Attached, you will see a link to a sign up genius website where you can choose to help us in one of three ways, For each home game we need 4 people to help with the chain gang, 2 people to assist with running the scoreboard, and one person as an announcer. All positions come with guidance to make you familiar with the operation. Please be willing to be a part of making our program successful.

2023 MS Football Game Help Our home events require a lot of manpower to run. We are looking for parents to work in the pressbox either as the clock operator or as an announcer and we are looking for parents to work the chains. Volunteers will receive FREE ADMISSION to games! Thank you for the help!

Your GLMS Blue Devils 8th-grade Football Team went toe-to-toe with a big Milwood team last night (some of them had beards, for crying out loud). The game went back and forth with 5 lead changes and never a point in the game when one team led by more than one score. Every player on the team fought for the guy next to them and it came down to a one point game with a conversion to win it with no time on the clock. The Blue Devils came up short, but they’ll get back to business right away to get ready to bring the hammer to BC Lakeview next week.

This is game week for middle school football!!!
7th grade: home vs Okemos, 6pm start
8th grade: @ Mayors Riverfront Park vs Milwood, 6:00 pm start. Bus departs @ 4:30 and will bring team back to GL.

There is a parent meeting for all seventh and eighth grade football players this evening at 4:30. This will take place in the middle school cafeteria. Your seventh and eighth grade players are welcome to come at that exact same time and begin suiting up and getting ready for pregame. Scrimmages will start at 6 o’clock. We will have a opportunity to scrimmage two teams. Currently the plan is for the eighth grade to play on the turf field and the seventh grade will be playing on the grass near our normal practice area, but it is subject to change.

To clear up any confusion, there is not a parent meeting tonight for middle school football. There will, however be a parent meeting next Wednesday prior to our scrimmage. Details will be coming out in the next couple days.

Practice this week is Mon - Thurs from 3-5:15. No practice on Friday or on Labor Day Monday

Please come out and support our varsity football team tonight in their season opener! Alcohol free tailgate area begins at 5

Due to the forecasted heat that we should see this afternoon, we are again moving our practice indoors. Please drop your players off at the middle school gym as we did yesterday. Make sure they have tennis shoes to wear during our practice indoors. We will also be starting to hand out shoulder pads during this time as well.

Attention, middle school families:
Due to the probability of high heat this afternoon, we will be meeting at the beginning of practice in the middle school gym. Please have your students bring their tennis shoes as well as their cleats. In case we need to work inside. It is very important they have tennis shoes with them! Emails will be going out to all families as well to alert them. Using both the gym and classroom setting, we will have a full practice from 3 o’clock until 515.

It will be a warm week of practice! Be sure to make sure your kids are properly hydrated, and have water to drink at practice.

Practice starts Monday at 3pm! If your player has not gotten their helmet from the middle school program, be sure to arrive early for fitting (you must use school equipment, do not bring rocket football helmet). Coaches should arrive be 2:30 ish to assist. Go Blue Devils!!

Two more lifting sessions before we begin the season next Monday afternoon. Tonight and Friday night at 6 PM in the high school weight room. Also, a reminder to get your physicals done and submitted through planeths.com before Monday practice.
