Hey y’all ! I’m happy to announce that my newest release “Don’t Crow, Don’t Cry “ on Third Street Ci**rs Records, is available everywhere digitally, and I couldn’t be happier ! I hope you take the time and give it a listen !
A blues label on a red-hot streak
Third Street Cigar Records is the fastest growing blues label in America, no doubt.
In just a few years, Third Street Cigar Records has gone from c**t to stallion. We've moved steadily from recording and supporting our local Ohio and Michigan artists to signing legends like Johnny Rawls and Donald Kinsey. Third Street releases have been tagged with Blues Music Awards nominations and we've taken home the hardware, as when I'm Still Around by Johnny Rawls was named Best Soul Blues Album of 2018.
We're putting the music and stories on-screen, too, with the 2019 release of That's A Good Way To Heaven: The Music & Life of Big Jack Reynolds.
When you come down to Third Street, you'll find hot music with deep roots and never-ending soul.
In conflict with my newly adopted
@ Dont Crow Don’t Cry mindset, I have a couple of announcements to make…but I’ve got to compose my thoughts but here’s a tease !!

Hi, I’m Jerry Dugger, to those of you who aren’t aware, Luther Guitar Jr Johnson passed away Dec 25 2022. This page was created for him about a year or so prior. Because Facebook can be difficult to negotiate. my posts from my personal page are showing up on this page, and folks are responding as if Luther posted these messages, my apologies. I don’t want to shut this page down as love and support is still pouring in for the memory of Luther, he’s left a legacy that is undeniable in the Blues community at large, I was so happy to have known him.
Moving forward, please understand that occasionally a post from my personal page will find it’s way to Luther’s page and I’m working to correct that. 🙏🏾
Ok, what happens when booking starts for the next month in the summer is this. In my exerience. The 25th if the month rolls in, suddenly I’m at my desk, fielding offers from three employers simultaneously, I start checking availability of my go to musicians against the dates provided and the dates I know they’re already committed to, their residencies, hoping that they’ll fall in line with what is being offered. This month is good, but in months that it’s not, you fall back to the alternates. You send a blast to you alternates, first response, first hired, half of them respond positively which leaves you, still searching, which in NOLA, in July is very tricky because it’s the time of year that musicians leave, to tour, to vacation, to escape the heat with their families, no harm no foul. If your communication with your booker is cool, cool. If it’s not you’re fu**ed. One of the venues won’t hire me to front the band I’ve been co-fronting for the past six months because of perceived name recognition, this after I’ve already done this with another bandleader that has name recognition @ that venue…meh
Which leads me to today, there was a gig, that I put on my calendar, and after booking everybody else successfully this solo gig stood out, it could only make it to my calendar if it was a confirmed gig, but I couldn’t track it in the text chain between myself and the booker of the venue, and he wasn’t responding to my texts to help clear it up, so I did what I thought was right. I showed up for the gig today, if I were right, I’d play the gig, if I were wrong I’d relenquish the gig to whomever else showed up, and that’s exactly what happened, and I’m glad it did. John Riley, the pianist, showed up as I was setting up, I immediately knew to pack it up and I did, but as I was packing up we introduced ourselves and chatted each other up, while that was going on the drummer going on after John showed up, Earl J. Smith Jr. , he’d just come from church and decided to drop his stuff and hang till he had to play, then the leader of Johns band showed up Raddy Tatta drummer vocalist, serious OG. We all started chatting each other up and before you knew it they were going on. Me and Raddy are about the same age, he started the Ray Charles cover of “I Got A Woman”, from his 1958 Newport Jazz Festival Album, an album I’ve been listening to since I was about eight, it has a classic Ray Charles vocal introduction to it that only those that have listened to that record and carried it with them through their musical journey would know, and I knew it cold. When the song and the set was over we all bonded at the bar while I pulled that record up on my phone, to say that moment was magical is not doing it justice by any stretch of the imagination !
We will absolutely be performing together very soon, so happy I went to work today…🙏🏾
